MY LIFE BEFORE SLAIS

Introduction

• The following is a brief presentation on the
  journey that has brought me to SLAIS.

Employment

Ive had many different jobs in the last 20
years, including that of bartender.

The job that I had the longest, 15 years to be
exact, was as a manager in a technical department
in a retail chain, where Id eventually get
recognized as the employee of the year for my
store in 2000.

In 2001, I quit my retail job and moved to South
Korea with my partner Paula, to teach English at
the John Shin Top English Academy.

TRAVEL

LAS VEGAS

• Ive been to Las Vegas every year for the last
  seven years. I enjoy taking in the odd show,
  boxing matches, a little bit of gambling and
  hiking in the Grand Canyon.

South Korea

• LIVING AND TEACHING IN South Korea was an amazing
  experience. A favorite pastime was to hike in the
  hills and visit the Buddhist temples.

In 2005 I had the opportunity to study the
Italian Renaissance in Italy. I lived in Florence
for a month, just two blocks from the Duomo
(shown in the lower right).

I was able to make detours around my studies to
several places including London, Paris, Cannes,
and Monaco (where we caught both the Formula 1
race as well as the finish of the Gumball 3000
car rally).

EDUCATION

I started my BA in History at Malaspina
University-College in 2002 and graduated in 2006.

In 2004 Paula and I were married and she
continues to be a source of support and
motivation for me, and a huge part of my life
leading up to SLAIS (and obviously beyond).
