phrase, 1 sentence with a gerund phrase, 1
sentence with a prepositional phrase, 1 compound
sentence, and 1 complex sentence. Follow the
specific instructions below.

The three columns must be evenly spaced across
the page. It might be a good idea to create your
table on the computer so that the rows and
columns are evenly spaced. - Label the first column Story Title the second
column Sentence the third column Stylistic
Impact. - For each example, record the title of the story
in the first column. - In the second column, record the sample sentence
as it appears in the text. Include an MLA
citation (see flap 2 instructions for an
example). You must also label which type of
phrase or sentence each example is. - In the third column, write a sentence or two that
explains the stylistic impact of the phrase or
sentence. How does it create interest for the
reader?

Compose an ABN about a time you were either
unfairly judged by someone, or when you judged
someone else.

- 1 conflict (at least) that advances the plot
- Purposeful dialogue
- A snapshot of a person, place or thing. Include
sensory details and figurative language (similes,
metaphors, etc.) - 5 vocabulary words (not used in previous
sections) - 2 words built from our roots
- 1 complex sentence
- 1 compound sentence
- After you compose your ABN, you must do the
following to it - Label the purposeful dialogue
- Label the snapshot
- Highlight or underline the vocab words
- Highlight or underline the root-word vocab
- Underline the complex and compound sentences
- Label all conflicts (which type of conflict is
it?) - Label the first instance of where 1st person pov
is evident
11FLAP 7 ABN Explanations
- Inside this flap, you will explain which
strategies and writing skills you incorporated in
the ABN in the previous flap.
- 1. Make a list of each requirement for the ABN
(you could copy and paste the list from the first
box in the previous slide). - For each requirement, explain how you achieved
the expectation. - For example The first requirement is 1st
person point of view. In the explanation you
would write a few sentences explaining how you
demonstrated 1st person POV, and why you did so
(what is the purpose?). IE I demonstrated 1st
person point of view because I used the pronoun
I throughout the first two sentences. I had to
use this type of narrator because I am the main
character in the story. (No, you may not use
this example in your flip chart!) Also reflect on
the impact of what you created for each
requirement. - 3. You need to write an explanation for all
requirements, 1-8.
12Format and Presentation Guidelines
If you type, the font must be 12 pt. Times New
Roman, Comic Sans, or Arial only. Double space
lines. Use 4 sheets of unlined white, colored, or
scrapbook paper. All paper MUST be 8.5 X 11.
Construction paper is not allowed. If you
handwrite, use blue or black ink. Write neatly
and legibly. NO PENCIL! Bind or staple your
chart so that no pages fall out and so that it is
easy to open and read. Most importantly, NO
GLITTER!
13FINAL REMINDERS
- Remember, this project takes the place of a final
exam. Therefore, you need to invest yourself
completely in the assignment and demonstrate - what you have learned this quarter. The more
time and effort you put into completing the
assignment, the better your final result will be. - Also keep in mind that you may be required to
take a final exam if your flip chart is subpar.
