  • Raising awareness of services/specialisms
  • Potential involvement in Extended Schools
    programmes
  • Creation of Teams Around the Child

4
Side Benefits to VCS
  • Free Training
  • Time- Release Funding up to 100
  • Knowledge sharing
  • Experience of cross-sector training
  • Chance to have a voice in the monitoring and
    evaluation of the impact

5
Figures
  • 35 VCS organisations attended 9 of the available
    events
  • 16 organisations completed the evaluation
  • 11 organisations claimed the funding
  • Total spend of 1,331

6
EVALUATION
  • REASONS FOR ATTENDING
  • we work with many children from different
    backgrounds, and with different services
  • to identify which families need a CAF
  • our service is often the first point of contact
for young people in need of assessment and
    referral to other services
  • so I can support my staff better around the CAF
  • I wished to know more about the integrated youth
    support agenda
  • as a manager of a nursery I should know what it
    is
  • we expect families to ask us about it
  • to see how CAF lies with information-sharing
    protocols

7
Evaluation
  • What will be the impact of the training
  • developed confidence competence, knowing when
to initiate CAF, enhancing multi-agency working
  • improved communication between us and statutory
    education staff
  • ability to support the CAF process
    appropriately
  • an understanding of how CAF is used for CYP
    before they reach my service
  • will be able to advise and encourage parents to
    engage with CAF
  • will seek cases where a CAF may help pull
    together services for a family
  • a wider sense of the context in which we are
    working

8
Expectations
  • 9 of the organisations said Yes, the training
    lived up to expectations
  • we feel better informed about the process
  • it was well organised, very informative and
    understandable
  • it was reassuring to see how far CAF has come
from training I went on 2 years ago
  • it was interesting and clearly challenged a few
    individuals
  • it enabled us to run through case scenarios from
a multi agency perspective and thus go through a
    CAF from start to finish
  • it was clear and practical

9
Expectations
  • 7 organisations said No, or Unsure
  • no prior information that this was aimed at
schools my service is pre school. Focus /
examples were on older children a bit
    misleading
  • trainers implied under-5s training had already
been rolled out in which case it had passed us
    by
  • it felt very CYPT heavy. I was the only
    voluntary sector worker
  • it seemed to pose more questions than it
    answered
  • it was a shame more time was not spent on why
this work is so important. The audience
    disengaged quickly
  • it was disheartening to listen to negative
comments about a very important piece of work,
because people perceived it as yet more form
    filling

10
Further Support / Training
  • 8 organisations felt that No, they did not need
    further support
  • I feel confident enough to contact the CAF
    office for support where appropriate
  • I would attend further training if there are
    changes or developments

11
Further Support / Training
  • 7 organisations felt Yes, they need more
  • telephone support is useful to answer queries
    on the job
  • it would be useful to look at services for older
young people and how this will fit with CAFs
    completed whilst at school
  • we would like to be kept posted as developments
    progress
  • twilight and e-learning
  • would be great to have a training pack to use,
to roll out to our staff team
  • we need clarity of up to date info relevant to
    the under-5s
  • I believe we will all be needing continued
support and tutelage if the CAF is to be
    implemented properly
  • yes too many questions for one days training

12
Value of Cross-sector Training
13
Value of Cluster-based Training
14
Cluster Training Values
15
Multi-Agency Relationships
16
CVS Promotion
17
Shared Anxieties
18
CVSF Recommendations
  • Ongoing training opportunities
  • Support/ forums to develop Cluster Teams
  • Clarity of Lead Professional
  • Opportunities for city-wide developments
  • Training pack to cascade to other staff
  • Under 5s info
  • Post-CAF to inform Youth Work

19
SUMMARY
  • The experience of CVSF members was on the whole
very positive 100 of those monitored expressed
an interest in further cluster-based events
  • It was strongly felt that MORE TIME was needed to
fully address any related issues and concerns to
fully engage with the CAF process in training,
    support or forums
