    project
  • Initiated wireless portion of network upgrade

    allow the eventual use of the Texas Connection
    applications
  • Established Microsoft site license for faculty
    and staff to purchase Microsoft applications at a
    reduced cost
  • Improved interdepartmental communication on IT

  • Deploy Sungard ODS / EDW (Operational Data Store
    / Electronic Data Warehouse)
  • Replace remaining network equipment that needs to
    be consistent with the newly-installed backbone
    switches and other appliances
  • Respond to recommendations in the TAMUS IT audit
  • Increase disaster recovery capability at TAMIU
  • Replace 8-year-old Uninterruptible Power Supply
    (UPS) system

  • Install a backup call center for the
    newly-installed Automatic Call Distribution (ACD)

Student Access Portal Project
  • Will be listed under Technology Initiatives in
    the FY 10 Programmatic Budget Review
  • Goals
  • Provide integrated access point for access to
    multiple information systems
  • Provide for single sign-on point for multiple
    information systems
  • Provide consistent information to targeted
    audiences
  • Implementation details
  • Currently evaluating two alternative systems
  • Luminis is used by several other TAMUS
    institutions
  • myCampus (CampusEAI/Oracle) provides partial
    funding through a grant program used by UT-PA
    and many other institutions around the country

Network Refresh Project
  • Listed under Technology Initiatives in the FY
    09 Programmatic Budget Review
  • Funding was received for the project across two
    fiscal years (part HEF and part Computer Use Fee)
  • Goals
  • Upgrade campus network backbone from 100 Mbps to
    10 Gbps to allow for future demand (involves
    replacement of all distributed network switches
    and other network appliances)
  • Provide for campus-wide wireless access
  • Implementation details

  • Utilization of WebFocus capitalizes on in-house
    expertise with Focus (both are IBI products)
  • Developed with a combination of IBI consultants,
    TAMUK programming staff (Lee Moore, project
    manager), and input from functional area
    customers
  • Same underlying technology as THECBs PREP online
  • Currently in final pre-release testing
  • Will be available to the university community
    beginning Fall 2009
