State Flag
The Oklahoma state flag honors more than 60
groups of Native Americans and their ancestors.
The background of the flag is sky blue. In the
center of the flag, an Osage warriors tan
colored battle shield outlined in red is
decorated with eagle feathers. Two symbols of
peace lie across the shield. One is a white peace
pipe with red tips. The other is a green olive
branch. Crosses on the shield are Native American
signs for stars, representing high ideals. The
word Oklahoma is white. The state name comes
from the Choctaw words okla meaning people, and
humma meaning red, translated as Red People.
