Research
  • There is an explicit expectation that the CEO is
active in continuous improvement and therefore in
    raising standards (Bulletin 77, 2004)
  • Macbeath (2000) emphasises the role that the
school and system play in investing long term in
    the capacity of their teachers

4
Research
  • In terms of improving educational outcomes for
our children there is no higher priority than
ensuring that we have quality teachers. Nelson
    (2002)
  • where outstanding outcomes were found . the
central purpose and focus of the school is
teaching and learning. Dinham 2005 pg 353

  • Teachers are by far the most profound influence
on student achievement within schools (Hattie,
    20031-3)
  • Teachers make the difference (National
Statement from the Teaching Profession on Teacher
Standards, Quality and Professionalism, May 2003)

6
Research
  • The quality of teaching is by far the most
important influence on the outcomes of
    schooling. (Australian Council for Educational
    Research, October 2003)
  • DEST (2003) Every state and national report on
teachers education agrees that investment in

  • Affirm and provide warm feedback to the New
    Scheme Teacher praising effective practices.
  • I like the way
  • The students seemed to connect with
  • The strategy you used was really effective.
  • In areas that you can see room for improvement
in provide cool feedback. Ask questions such as
  • What would you do next time to improve that
    lesson?
  • How could you have handled that issue
    differently?
  • Be proactive and reassuring, never be critical or
    condescending.
  • Written feedback
  • This tool of formal observation may seem daunting
to some, but it is an invaluable way to ensure
    self-reflection for teachers. Be constructive,
jointly develop the focus and goals for future
    lessons.
