  • The safety of personnel and equipment takes
    precedence over everything you do while here at
    Camp San Luis Obispo
  • All personnel must conform to all rules and
    regulations
  • The OIC is responsible for the safety of their
    troops

SAFETY
  • THERE IS NO REASON FOR ANYONE TO GET HURT OR
    EQUIPMENT TO BE DAMAGED. SAFETY MUST BE
    EMPHASIZED AND ENFORCED AT ALL TIMES!!

OPERATIONS UTILIZATION
  • All training will conform to CSLO Reg. 350-1,
  • AR 385-63 and
  • DA PAM 385-63.
  • CSLO Reg. 350-1 applicable TMs and FMs for
    weapon systems being used must be on site.

  • HOT status
  • MEDEVAC procedures
  • Live fire procedures
  • COLD status
  • Clearing procedures

RANGE OPERATIONS
  • A copy of DA FORM 581 must be turned in to Range
    Control before a range can be issued
  • Only the OIC or RSO may sign for a range
  • Both the OIC and RSO are required to be
    PHYSICALLY present on the range when in a HOT
    status.
  • If either must leave, the range must go into a
    COLD status.

  • Units will be issued the following before
    occupying a range
  • Range box
  • Range flags
  • Weapon board
  • Range binder (w/CSLO 350-1)
  • Telephone
  • Range keys

RANGE OPERATIONS
  • Large Range flag must be flown at the main flag
    pole
  • Weapon board must be placed on main Range Board
  • Small Range flag must be flown at each individual
    range with personnel present
  • Check condition of the range.

RANGE OPERATIONS
  • Dual method of communication with Range Control
  • Primary method is land line
  • Secondary is FM or cell phone
  • FM frequency is 42.00 new squelch on
  • Call signs are Range Control and the Range that
    you are occupying

RANGE OPERATIONS
  • RTO can NOT be the medic
  • If Range Control tries to contact you with no
    success, a visit will occur
  • If the problem is mechanical, Range Control will
    attempt to find a solution
  • If the problem is personnel related, OIC and RSO
    will have a conversation with the Range Officer

  • OIC or RSO only must call 66546 to request a HOT
    status
  • All safety requirements must be completed
  • Range Control will verify the time you are
    entering a HOT status

RANGE OPERATIONS
  • You must have a dedicated RTO
  • You must have a dedicated evacuation vehicle
  • You must have a dedicated Emergency Medical
    person
  • Medic
  • Combat lifesaver
  • Civilian EMT (must provide certificate to RC)

  • Live fire authorized between 0700 and 1730
  • Outside this time frame and night fires must be
    coordinated and pre-scheduled through Range
    Control
  • Tracers are not authorized without approval of
    Range Control

CLEARING PROCEDURES
  • OIC or RSO must call 66546 for a COLD status
  • Range must be policed before calling for a range
    clearance
  • What you bring in, must be taken with you when
    you depart

MEDEVAC PROCEDURES
  • No medical support on CSLO
  • Call 911, land line 9-911 IMMEDIATELY
  • 911 will determine evacuation method for loss of
    life, limb or eyesight
  • Non-serious injury must be transported by unit
    organic vehicle
  • Notify Range Control after calling 911

MEDEVAC PROCEDURES
  • Sierra Vista hospital is located on Murray Avenue
  • HWY 1 south to Murray
  • Left on Murray
  • Hospital on left
  • Strip maps available at Range Control

CEASE FIRE
  • Anyone can call a cease-fire
  • If Range Control gives you a cease-fire, do it
    IMMEDIATELY
  • Typical reasons for a cease-fire
  • Weapon malfunction
  • Personnel, vehicles or animals down range
  • Aircraft overhead
  • Unsafe actions

CEASE FIRE
  • If an aircraft flies overhead, try to pass the
    following information to Range Control
  • Tail number
  • Aircraft type ( of engines, etc.)
  • Direction of flight
  • Estimated altitude above ground

MISFIRE
  • If you have a misfire, perform the procedures in
    the TM or FM
  • If misfire procedures are unsuccessful, attempt
    to determine if it is a weapon or ammunition
    problem
  • Malfunctioning weapons will be removed from the
    range to be repaired by a certified armorer

PYROTECHNICS
  • Pyrotechnics must be approved by Range Control
    prior to arrival at CSLO
  • Pyrotechnics are restricted to approved training
    areas IAW CLSO 350-1
  • Review Safety of Use message
  • All personnel will be briefed on the hazards and
    employment procedures of your device

UXO SAFETY
  • UXO is any munitions that didnt detonate when
    fired and is EXTREMELY dangerous
  • Upon discovery, notify Range Control immediately
  • Mark the UXO and remove all personnel and
    equipment from the area
  • DO NOT tamper with a UXO

ACCIDENT REPORTING
  • All training accidents/incidents involving
    personnel or equipment must be reported
  • Notify Range Control immediately
  • Units must complete a SIR, CAARNG Form 190-40.
    Range Control can assist
  • Initial reports must be reported immediately and
    follow-ups within 24 hours

WILDLIFE
  • Beware of snakes, scorpions, black widows and
    other poisonous creatures
  • Dont shoot any wildlife
  • Only Range Control can move cattle grazing in the
    impact area

POISON OAK
  • Found around wooded areas
  • Severity of rash
  • Wash thoroughly as soon as possible

SENSITIVE AREAS/ISSUES
  • Bog thistle
  • Red-legged frog
  • Historical/natural resources
  • Avoid siber stake areas

VEHICLES
  • Speed limits
  • Paved surface 25 MPH
  • Unpaved surface 15 MPH
  • Passing troops or joggers 5 MPH
