  • Youve just fallen into a tunnel.
  • Thud!
  • You have landed in the year 1250 BC in Ancient
    Egypt!
  • Good News! There is a Time Machine there, but to
    get
  • back home to today you must decode and enter in a
  • special password into this time machine. To
    receive
  • this password, you must complete a variety of
  • missions. Upon completion of these missions you
    will
  • receive the special password to enter into the
    time
  • machine. This password is your only hope to
    returning
  • home. Good Luck and see you soon!

Mission 1
  • Its Party Time!
  • You will need to host a party to find out about
    daily life for ancient Egyptians. You will need
    to create a name for yourself, design a costume
    and jewelry to wear, plan a menu of Egyptian
    food, plan entertainment and games, decorate the
    party, and of course be able to act like an
    Egyptian! To communicate with people at the
    party you will need to know everything about
    ancient Egyptian life.

Mission 1 Process
  • Each of you will be present at the party and will
    need to create your own name. Each of you will
    also be responsible for acting like an ancient
    Egyptian and carrying on conversations with
    others at the party. So you may want to research
    what education was like in ancient Egypt, the
    type of jobs the people held and other facts
    about daily life.

  • Costume coordinator You will be responsible for
    researching the dress of ancient Egyptians and
    designing dress for your team members.
  • Caterer You will be responsible for researching
    Egyptian food and planning a menu for the party.

    responsible for researching what ancient
    Egyptians like to do for fun and plan
    entertainment for the party.
  • Decorator You will be responsible for
    researching ancient Egyptian art and finding art
    and other decorations for the party.

Mission 2
  • You will need to keep a daily weather journal of
    weather conditions in Cairo, Egypt. Record the
    high temperature, low temperature, average
    temperatures, and precipitation for each day.
    Upon completion of this mission you should have a
    chart with the high and low temperatures,
    average temperatures, and precipitation for each
    day. You should also have graphs illustrating
    these weather patterns.

  • These are the roles for this mission
  • High temperature observer This person is
    responsible for estimating each day what they
    believe the high temperature is, documenting the
    correct high temperature on a chart, and
    converting this chart into a graph.
  • Low temperature observer This person is
    responsible for estimating each day what they
    believe the low temperature is, documenting the
    correct low temperature on a chart, and
    converting this chart into a graph.
  • Average temperature observer This person is
    responsible for estimating each day what they
    believe the average high and low temperature is,
    documenting the actual high and low temperatures
    on a chart, and determining the difference
    between the actual and average temperatures and
    documenting this on a chart.
  • Precipitation observer This person is
    responsible for estimating each day what they
    believe the amount of precipitation will be,
    documenting the actual amount of precipitation on
    a chart, and converting this chart into a graph.

    learned about mummification with your group

    prove your knowledge by mummifying an apple.

Mission 4
  • You will be attending a school for scribes to
    learn how the Ancient Egyptians communicated.
    After learning about Ancient Egyptian
    hieroglyphics, you will need to write a letter
    using hieroglyphics to your class describing your
    experience thus far. After completing this
    letter, you will graduate from the school for
    scribes and complete the mission!

Mission 4 Process
  • You must begin by researching hieroglyphics
    individually.
  • Then, you will each write your Egyptian name that
    you created in hieroglyphics.
  • Finally, you will come together as a group and
    teach each other everything you learned about
    hieroglyphics. As a final task to graduate from
    the school for scribes and to complete this
    mission, you must write a short letter in
    hieroglyphics to the class describing your
    experience so far.

  • Your last and final mission to complete before
    receiving the special password is to compile all
    the work you have just done into an Ancient Egypt
    survival guide in case somebody else falls into
    the same tunnel and lands in ancient Egypt!

Mission 6 Process
  • This is also a group effort! Take everything you
    have learned from the previous 5 missions and
    organize it into a survival guide for your
    classmates, teacher, or anyone else who may fall
    in the tunnel. This survival guide is what will
    be turned in for a grade. Following is a student
    checklist so you can check off everything as you
    organize it to make sure it is all complete.
    Once you turn in this survival guide you will
    receive the special password to decode!
