  • Breaking the Cycle of Violence

2
What is Animal Cruelty?
  • Intentional Cruelty or abuse, is knowingly
depriving an animal of food, water, shelter,
socialization, or veterinary care or maliciously
torturing, maiming, mutilating, or killing an
    animal.

3
Why would people be cruel to animals?
  • To control an animal
  • To retaliate against an animal, or another person
  • To shock people for amusement
  • To express aggression through an animal

4
Dont children sometimes harm animals?
  • If allowed to harm animals without penalty,
children are more likely to commit violent acts
    later in life.
  • Children who abuse animals are generally involved
in bullying, vandalism, and more serious crimes,
    including arson.

5
Is there any evidence of a connection between
animal cruelty and human violence?
  • Animal abuse in the home often means that child
abuse is taking place as well.
  • A child who is abusing animals has taken the
first step on the path of violence toward other
people-a step should be taken seriously.

7
What Can We Do?
  • Take animal abuse seriously.
  • Set an example for younger children.
  • Call the police or local animal shelter to report
    any abusive behavior.
  • EDUCATE!! It is most important to educate
yourself and others on the connection between
    animal abuse and human violence.
