Title: An individual
1An individual
2Anne Frank
- Anne Marie Frank was born on June 12, 1929 in
Frankfurt am Main, Germany. - She was the second daughter of Otto Frank and
Edith Frank-Holländer. - Her sister Margot was three years older than
her. - They were a Jewish German family.
3 When Nazi Party lead by Adolph Hitler came to
power in Germany in 1933s the family and other
Jews in Germany were discriminated against and
didnt feel safe. They moved to Amsterdam in
the Netherlands where they hoped for a new start
4- The Frank Family feels free and safe, until the
German Army invades the Netherlands on May 10,
1940. The discrimination against the Jews begins
then as well - Jews may not own their own businesses
- Jewish children have to go to Jewish schools
- all Jews have to wear a yellow star
- and many other restrictions.
5 On June 12, 1942, Anne Frank celebrates her
13th birthday. She receives a diary as a present.
It is her favourite gift. She begins writing
in it immediately I hope I will be able to
confide everything to youand I hope you will be
a great source of comfort and support.
6Like thousands of Jews living in Amsterdam,
Margot (Annes older sister) gets called to go
back to Germany. This is bad news for the
family, if she went they would never see her
again and she would probably be killed. The
family were expecting this call-up and had
organised a hiding place which they would share
with another family the Van Pels. Along with
her things Anne brings her diary. While in hiding
friends help them to get food and other things
that they needed
7The hiding place was in an empty section of a
building owned by Otto Frank's company. While
business continues, as usual, in the front part
of the building, there are people hiding in the
annex out back. Before too long, the entrance to
the Secret Annex is concealed behind a movable
bookcase.
8In 1944 the family hope that victory is near,
they had been hiding in their secret annex for
almost two years. Anne hopes to be back at school
in September or October.
suddenly someone came running up the stairs. The
stairs were squeaking, I stood up, because it was
still early in the morning and everyone was
supposed to be quiet - then the door opened and a
man was standing right in front of us with a gun
in his hand and it was pointed at us. Otto
Frank
On Friday, August 4, 1944 the families in hiding
were discovered.
9On August 8, 1944, the eight people in hiding are
taken to Westerbork by passenger train. They are
assigned to barracks in the punishment block.
They have to work all day. It is grimy and
unhealthy work.
Anne and Margot die of typhus in March 1945, a
few weeks before the camp is liberated by the
British Army
10Otto Frank (Annes father) is liberated from
Auschwitz on January 27, 1945.
Miep Gies one of the families helpers found
Annes diary in the secret hiding place and saves
it for her when she comes back. When Otto
comes back he is the only survivor. Otto reads
his daughters diary and discovers that she had
wanted to publish a book. After thinking about
this Annes father makes Annes wish come true
and publishes the diary.
