- Jessica Stanger a Senior FFA student at SHS
pregnancy checked a cow through palpation while
attending a Farm Field Day in Cedartown, Ga on
March 5, 2009. Jessica had the opportunity along
with 30 other SHS students to work along side 3rd
and 4th year Vet students from UGA under the
direction of Dr. Mel Pence. Jessica plans to
study and become a Vet.

- Nine SHS FFA 9th and 10th graders recently
attended the Greenhand Jamboree and Success
Conference at the FFA Camp in Covington, GA an
Feb 27-28. The students learned more about the
FFA and all the opportunities the organization
can provide along with have fun and meeting new
people.

members Exhibited sheep at the state livestock
show in Feb. Katie who participates through 4-H
had the Grand Champion Breeding Ewe for the Show.
Both young Ladies had a good show by winning some
classes and finishing high in showmanship.

her Sub region bracket in Prepared Public
Speaking advancing to the region finals in April.
Elizabeth finished 4th in the state last year.

- Jacob Holmes a Senior FFA member at SHS Won the
Beef Grooming contest while attending the State
Livestock Show in Perry, GA in Feb. - Jacob also finished in the top 5 in Heifer and
Steer Showmanship as well as winning a Reserved
Grand Champion with his steer. - Jacob is Shown here with Dr. McCown holding the
buckle Jacob won.

- 30 SHS students attended a Farm Field Day in
Cedartown, GA on March 5, 2009. Students from Mr.
Spoon's and Miss Clark's Ag classes attended a
true diversified Farm. The students observed and
worked along side other students from UGA and
Pepperell High school. The students were given
the opportunity to Listen in on the practices
Mrs. Jan Nutt uses on her cut flower farm which
is only about a half an acre that generates
approx. 45,000 annually. Students were also
given an opportunity handle cattle in a working
facility and gain knowledge taken from the
process of reproductive tract scoring and body
condition scoring.

Social Studies
- The tenth grade World History Classes at SHS will
be touring the King TUT Exhibit in Atlanta
Georgia April 13th.
35Johnny Thompson- SKILLS USA
- Received the LOWES Grant for Community Service
of 4,622.00 for work at The Phoenix Trail at
Salacoa Park and SKILLS USA was guests of LOWE'S
for the Truck race on Sat at Atlanta
36Michael Rigdon- Stength Conditioning
- We have five students who have qualified for the
USA Olympic Weightlifting School Age National
Championships in June. These students have
competed in three weightlifting competitions and
have set personal records in each competition. - There are currently eight students from SHS who
compete. Interest in the sport is starting to
spread among the students. Students who have

37Barbara Naymick- HOSA
- The Sonoraville High School HOSA attended the
2009 HOSA State Leadership Conference held in
Athens, GA. 18 HOSA members competed for
recognition, awards, and scholarships on the
state level.

- Notable Five members Cassie Burchett, Holly
Eldridge , Tosha Fowler, Kayla Kerr and Brittany
Simmons all achieved recognition as top ten
finalist in the areas of Medical reading and
Keiser Permanente Knowledge Test. Mrs. Naymick is
very proud of all of the HOSA members who
participated. Their professionalism and unique
talents were displayed to the highest degree.
39Barbara Naymick- HOSA
- SHS HOSA held a Spring Blood Drive in conjunction
with the American Red Cross. 126 units of blood
were obtained. This blood will be used as the
gift of life and to help alleviate the critical
blood shortage in the Northwest Georgia area.
