Reflexives in Indirect Command
  • The reflexive pronoun may have as its antecedent
    the subject of the verb of asking, advising, or
    commanding which governs the indirect command.

This use is called indirect reflexive context
dictates clarity!
Captivus ab eis petivit ne se vulnerarent. The
prisoner begged them not to wound him. cf.
Marcus Sextum rogavit ne se interficeret.
