3Artist Statement
- For as long as I can remember, I have
always loved art. Once I learned to hold a
crayon, art was for me. My whole family is very
artistic and through their various talents and
encouraging words I have increasingly improved my
art pieces. My aunt is an artist in California.
Every time I go visit her we create a pastel
landscape in the Oakland Mountains. Besides
acting as a common interest in my family, art has
helped me through difficult times and acted as an
outlet for my emotions. - Generally I tend to create realistic art. I
have a hard time creating something from pure
imagination. Instead, I usually draw what I see
and hope it evolves to look like the original
image. I also love anything black and white.
Whether it is a monochromatic painting or black
and white photography, the lack of color invites
more creativity and mystery of its meaning. Out
of all of the mediums, I enjoy painting the most. - In college I hope to take additional art classes
as electives to expand my abilities. Though I
will not major in art, I still want art to be a
large part of my life. I have yet to experiment
with sculpture and clay, so that may be a new
opportunity for me. Currently I am attempting to
become efficient with oils. I have always
enjoyed viewing work done in oils and I welcome a
new challenge. The one thing I do know, however,
is that my creation of art is not over.
4Elongated Portrait
- I created this in art II by elongating a picture
of me sticking my tongue out. Here I used pastel
in bright colors to make my already elongated
face more abstract.
5Ryan
- This was my final project for art II. It is a
portrait of my friend Ryan and me. I changed the
background, the color of the sofa, and did not
include my braces or the new years hat I was
wearing.
6Monoprints
I chose a this picture of a woman to duplicate
and print using ink on Plexiglas. I love the red
and orange around the face and the minimal
details of the face. I had a hard time with the
roses in the hair but I am pleased with how it
turned out.
7Art History Project
- I created this piece in art II and emulated André
Derain who painted during the Fauvism movement. - I used acrylic and painted with bright colors and
broad lines.
8Cockatoo- Color Wheel
- I chose to portray the color wheel by drawing a
cockatoo. I enjoyed creating this piece even
though I dont really like painting with tempera.
9Principles of Design Panels
Emphasis/ Form (pencil)
Cover (collage)
Movement/space (collage)
Rhythm/texture (pastel)
10Principles of Design Boards Cont.
I used various types of media and images to
portray the principles and elements of design.
Balance/color (color pencil)
Pattern/shape (collage)
Unity/line (paint)
Contrast/Value (inkwash)
11Graveyard
- I used a clay slab and created a graveyard scene.
I included a black cat, tombstones, a stone
coffin, and a dead tree. Once it was fired, I
painted the clay with watercolors.
12Apples
watercolor
Oil
In honors art III I used three types of paint to
practice shading and mixing colors. Here I
painted still-lives of apples.
acrylic
