    states, districts and schools.  All PD Affiliates
    have been accepted into the program and have
    attended a comprehensive 3-day training on the
    P21 framework.

State Initiative Objective
  • Develop a national network of states that are
    implementing statewide projects that further the
    goal of ensuring every child possesses 21st
    century skills.

State Responsibilities
  • P21 Leadership States design new standards,
    assessments, and professional development
    programs that prepare students with the 21st
    century skills they need to be successful in
    school, work, and life. To become a P21
    Leadership State, a state demonstrates commitment
    from the governor and chief state school officer
    and submits an application to P21 that describes
    the states plan to revise standards, create
    assessments and implement 21st century skills
    professional development programs.

State Leadership Project
  • The Partnerships State Leadership Project is
    designed to foster and promote educational
    practices in states that have aligned their
    educational vision, focus and resources around
    21st century learning.
  •  
  • The Partnership will work with state-based
    coalitions and policy leaders to build a
    state-wide agenda, coalition, and implementation
    plan. While implementation strategies may vary
    among states, a common goal ensuring that every
    child possesses 21st century skills is shared
    by every state.

Expectations for States-1
  • In order to be successful in this school
    improvement effort, states must plan for
    appropriate resources for their 21st Century
    Skills initiatives including budget, staff and
    physical infrastructure, which at minimum should
    include
  •  Ensure high level state leadership support for
    participation as a P21 Leadership State.
