Title: The HardyWeinberg Principle

1
The Hardy-Weinberg Principle
2
Aim What is the Hardy-Weinberg Principle?
I. What factors promote stability in a gene pool?
A. G.H. Hardy (English mathematician) and W.
Weinberg (German physician) studied gene
frequencies in 1908.
3
B. Hardy-Weinberg Principle states that the gene
frequencies in a population tend to remain
constant (no evolution occurring) from generation
to generation under the following conditions
1. Large Populations
2. Absence of mutations
3. Absence of migration (in or out)
4. Random mating
Conditions opposite to the above will cause
changes in the gene pools.
