2Social Studies
6.03 Identify examples of how families and
communities work together to meet their basic
needs and wants.
3Fire Safety is important because we should
practice
- what to do if our house is on fire
- what to do if our clothes are on fire
- how we can keep a fire from starting
- how we can keep ourselves and our families safe
if there is a fire
4If your house is on fire
Get out immediately!
5If your house is on fire
Call 911 from a neighbors house.
6If your house is on fire
Go to the meeting place that you and your family
decide on.
7If your clothes are on fire
Stop
Drop
Roll
8Never play with matches
9If you find matches you should ALWAYS take them
to a grown-up
10Smoke Alarms
Make sure your parents have one on every level of
your house, in the kitchen, and near every
bedroom.
Ask your parents to change the battery in every
smoke alarm each year on your birthday.
11Escape Plan
- Decide different ways to get out of your house.
- Have your parents buy and attach rope ladders to
any rooms that are off the ground in your house.
- Practice your escape plans.
12Stay Safe
Crawl on the floor if you are in a fire. Smoke
goes up and you do not want to breathe in the
smoke. Clean air stays near the ground.
13Stay Safe
Before you leave a room in a building that is on
fire touch the door with the back of your hand.
If it is warm, DO NOT open it! There is fire on
the other side of the door. You touch it with the
back of your hand because that side is tougher
than the front of your hand.
14Be Safe
Know where your fire extinguishers are in case
there is a fire and your parents are not home.
This way you could show the babysitter or another
adult who is with you.
15Firefighters
Firefighters sometimes look scary in their suits.
If they come to help you in a fire, do not be
afraid.
