4 Key things therefore in understanding
Nehemiahs visioning experience
  • He was deeply concerned and discontented with
things as they were and desired to see Gods Work
    and Gods people prosper. (12-4)
  • He sought Gods help in earnest prayer with the
    intention to please God. (15-11)
  • In anxiety and hope he sought permission and
    assistance from king Artaxerxes (21-8)
  • And he straightway developed a plan of action to
realize the vision of rebuilding the city(29, 10)

Some noteworthy considerations derived from
Nehemiahs visioning experience
  • It was his concern, discontent and desire that
    brought him to a vision.
  • We need Gods help to direct the vision.
  • More often than not the vision is intimidating
because of what it will take to realize it.
  • The vision exists in the community.
  • Without the vision any plan or planning will be
    fruitless or counter-productive.

  • there is no sense of direction
  • there is no energy or will to do or become
  • there is little or no productivity
  • selfishness drives motives
  • people wander aimlessly like a ship on the ocean
    without a rudder

How do I arrive at a Vision?
  • Look within what do I have?
  • Look behind what experience do I stand on?
  • Look around what is the situation with
    others?
  • Look ahead what possibilities that lie ahead?
  • Look above what does God expect in this?
  • Look beside what resources do I have?
