International guests gather at Gripsholm Castle
in the Swedish town of Mariefred for the 2005
WCPRC Awards The number of children voting
globally in 2005 was an amazing 2.4 million.

The guests included children from all over the
world including Maya and Sarah from Stockholm and
Charlotte from the UK. The children all have a
commitment to supporting and promoting the work
of the prize.

represents children with functional disabilities
children that have been affected by poisonous
substances used in war and bullied children.

The children and adult friends are addressed by
Laura Hannant from Canada.
As a previous childrens jurys chairman, Laura
has been a spokesperson for the children of the
world. That was also her role when she finally
formulated the childrens declaration A World Fit
For Us. Laura represented the North American
children on the committee that was assigned to
draw up the declaration.

Iris Knuppel was the UK Save the Children worker
who promoted the WCPRC

Maïmouna works in a childrens rights club in
Senegal, teaches families to register their
children, and arranges the voting for the Global
Friends Award. Now she is also a member of the
WCPRCs child jury.

Gabatshwane sings with a band in South Africa,
she thanked nelson Mandela through song for all
he has done for the children of South Africa, for
her freedom, for the chance to go to school and
for his respect for children's rights. But she
thanks him particularly for the help he's given
to her and other children who've lost their
parents to AIDS or who have AIDS themselves.   
Gabatshwane helps the poor people of the village
and orphaned school friends with the money she
earns with her band.

Bahjat is from Palestine, chair of the WCPRC
jury, and represents children in conflict areas
and living under occupation.

Ana María Marañon de Bohorquez received The
World's Children's Honorary Award because she has
worked selflessly for many years for the street
children in Cochabamba, Bolivia. With street
life comes violence and drugs. But Ana María is
determined to give the children a chance in life.
She has one home for boys, El Arca, and one for
girls, Rosa de Sarón. Here the children live with
adults, who give them love and security. They can
go to school and then learn a profession.

The Mothers of St. Rita from Kenya celebrate
being awarded the WCP for 2005. They are
congratulated by Maya, Charlotte, Sarah and Han

on behalf of her father Nelson Mandela

Graça Machels daughter, Josina, receives the
Global Friends Award on her mothers behalf

Nick Ellerby responded to an invitation by the
WCPRC to be a UK ambassador to promote the work
of the prize in the UK, together with his
daughter, Charlotte. Since then ODEF has decided
to support the WCPRC in the UK and is working in
association with Save the Children to encourage
schools to become involved in the global
process. Zena Bernacca is leading the work at
ODEF and is the person to contact to discuss how
