Important Characteristics to Look for When
Selecting Male Breeding Hogs
  • Leanness- not a lot of fat over the back, ham and
    belly
  • Structure- good legs, good posture, level across
    top
  • Growth- good frame size to allow for more growth
  • Muscle- ham, rump, neck, and loin should be well
    muscled
  • Balance- animal should look symmetrical with no
    defects

  • 24 parts of importance
  • Look at hog from tip of nose all the way to the
    tip of the tail to ensure good quality
    throughout!
  • Lets look at each of the parts individually and
    discuss the aspects of each
