  • KESHAV GORE SMARAK TRUST (est.. 1958)
  • Financing the operation of 6 balwadis in slums
    of Goregaon, Mumbai for one year
  • Activities in the balwadis - Children are taught
    the alphabet, participate in drawing, singing,
    elocution, acting, and sport. Weekly snacks
    provided, Annual Day celebrated.
  • Requested amount Rs. 1,34,400 for teachers
    salaries, aids salaries, teaching aids,
    stationery, sweets and snacks, supervisor's
    salary and other contingencies.
  • Ravi Kuchimanchi, Aravinda P and Nitin Sawhney
    (AID-Boston) visited the balwadis
  • Status AID-Blacksburg approved the project in
    1998, and has sent two quarterly payments to
    date.

  • Provision of meals and health services to
    children at 8 balwadis in slums in Mumbai, for
    one year.
  • At least 600 k/calories a day per child
  • Three medical check ups in a year.
  • First detailed check up at the beginning of the
    first term
  • A social worker appointed for the purpose to
    maintain a detailed report of each child and do
    the necessary follow up.
  • Second check up at the beginning of second term
    (October/November)
  • Third at the end of the academic session (April).
  • Where necessary, medicines and vitamins will be
    provided.
  • Requested amount Rs. 2,40,000 for meals Rs.
    60,000 for health service

  • HUMAN DEVELOPMENT CENTRE (est. 1986 regd. under
    West Bengal Societies Registration Act, 1961)
  • Financing the purchase of audio-visual equipment
    to help in the educational and awareness-raising
    activities of the HDC
  • Requested amount Rs. 64,000 for television,
    VCR, slide projector, and mini generator.
  • Project site visited by Rajmohan Rajaram of
    AID-Boston.
  • Status Under review

C. Problems faced by AID-Blacksburg
  • Attracting and retaining volunteers (Dr. Raos
    visit did help increase our volunteer pool)
  • Related to the above problem, community outreach
    -- spreading the word about AID activities and
    garnering support from the larger community
    (Asian Indians and others)
  • Efficient coordination with AID-Maryland
