1
Integration of TechnologyandEarly Childhood
Education
2
Stages of Technology Integration
  • Entry Stage
  • Adaptation Stage
  • Transformation Stage

3
Entry Stage
  • Access to computers is a big issue at this stage
  • classroom activity is slightly changed for
    technology
  • Exchanging ideas with other teachers can help
them progress to the next level.

4
Adaptation Stage
  • Technology becomes thoroughly integrated into
    teaching patterns
  • Teachers are more comfortable with students
    developing individual interests
  • Collaboration and mentoring is important at this
    stage

5
Transformation Stage
  • Technology expands the learning environment
  • Students are self directed
  • Students have opportunities to design their own
    learning pathways

6
Barriers for Teachers
  • Time
  • Training
  • Resources
  • Support
  • Change

7
Consider this
  • Relative Advantage
  • Observability
  • Compatibility
  • Complexity
  • Trialability

8
Why Use Technology
  • Focus on content-area curriculum
  • Need for knowledge
  • Increases on-task time
  • Application/Analysis
  • Skills taught in context

9
Benefits
  • Multisensory delivery
  • Motivation/Active learning
  • Critical thinking
  • Cooperative/Individual
  • Communication skills
  • Multicultural

10
Computers and Classroom Management
  • Room Arrangement
  • Management and Scheduling
  • Classroom Modeling

11
Room Arrangement
  • Easy student access
  • Easy teacher access
  • Easily supervised
  • Away from direct sunlight, water, magnets, and
    chalk dust
  • Provide enough space for small group interaction

12
Management Scheduling
  • Sample Method
  • Computers users for a specific day will be
    given a specific color(Monday- blue).
  • Take weekly schedule and assign open blocks to
    students

13
Guidelines for Computers
  • Post computer rights and responsibilities,
guidelines for help, and expected behavior near
    the computer station.
  • Display posters using computer terms and commands
  • Post help sheets that provide clear step by step
    instructions.

14
Guidelines for Computers
  • Emphasize the importance of pre-planning, so time
    on computer is used efficiently.
  • Pair students with experience with students who
    are new using computers.
  • Find students who can work as special technology
    assistants(older students)

15
Classroom Modeling
  • Model computer project for the week
  • Provide a sample of completed work for that
    session
  • Provide students with a step by step checklist.
  • Have students sign and attach checklist to the
    completed project.
  • Templates can be valuable in the classroom
because students can rotate through the activity
and the original will not be altered.

16
Exploring Oceans on the Web Lesson Plan
  • 3 Parts

  • -oceanic field trip
  • -creating a wave bottle

17
Oceans Lesson PlanLet's go Explore

  • ocean forests

18
Follow up to Exploring OceansVirtual Field Trip
  • A virtual field trip without leaving the
    classroom
  • students visit nineteen different places where
they can read and learn about everything
concerning oceans from the color to coral reefs

19
Making our own WavesHow to Make Waves
  • Students can make their own waves by using
household items such as water, oil, food
    coloring, and a plastic bottle
  • this activity can be used to sum up the oceans
lesson plan by having students discuss what they
    notice about the wave movement

23
Lesson Plans Heathers Language Arts Lesson
  • When their paragraphs are completed, the students
may use a paint or graphic program to create a
picture of their character and we will submit
them to Marc Brown for possible publication on
    his homepage.
  • Afterwards, we will take all paragraphs and
pictures and make one big class book. This book
will be placed in the browsing box in the class
library. This will promote future reading at
    their leisure.
