  • Absolute Value - How far a number is from zero.
  • Acute Angle - An angle less than 90 (90 is
    called a Right Angle)
  • Acute Triangle - A triangle that has all angles
    less than 90 (90 is called a Right Angle)
  • Add - To bring two or more numbers (or things)
    together to make a new total.

  • Addend - Any of the numbers that are added
    together.
  • Addition - Is finding the total, or sum, by
    combining two or more numbers.
  • Adjacent Angles lying next to each other.
  • Algebra - Is the area of mathematics where
    letters (like x or y) or other symbols are used
    to represent unknown numbers.
  • Algorithm - Is a step-by-step solution to a
    problem.

  • Angle - The amount of turn between two straight
    lines that have a common end point (the vertex).
  • Annual - Something that happens once a year.
  • Anticlockwise - Moving in the opposite direction
    to the hands on a clock. Also called
    counterclockwise. Angles are usually measured
    anticlockwise.
  • Area - The size of a surface. The amount of space
    inside the boundary of a flat (2-dimensional)
    object such as a triangle or circle.

  • Arithmetic - The basic calculations we make in
    everyday life addition, subtraction,
    multiplication and division. It also includes
    fractions and percentages (related to division)
    and exponents (related to multiplication).
  • Array - Items (such as objects, numbers, etc.)
    arranged in rows and columns.
  • Ascending Order - Arranged from smallest to
    largest. Increasing.

  • Asymmetry - Means "no symmetry. Something with
    no symmetry is asymmetrical. It is also possible
    to be symmetrical in one way and asymmetrical in
    another.
  • Average - The average is a calculated "central"
    value of a set of numbers. It is easy to
    calculate add up all the numbers and divide by
    how many numbers there are and you will have the
    average. Example the average of 4, 6 and 11 is
    (4611)/3 21/3 7

  • Axis (geometry) - An imaginary line around which
    something rotates
  • Axis (graph) - A reference line drawn on a graph
    (you can measure from it to find values).
  • Axis of Symmetry - A line through a shape so that
    each side is a mirror image. If the shape were to
    be folded in half along the axis of symmetry,
    then the two halves would be the same, they would
    match up.

  • Balance - When both sides have the same quantity
    or mass.
  • Balance Scales - A device for weighing. It has a
    balanced beam and two pans. When the pans contain
    exactly the same mass the beam will be in
    balance. You can place an object in one pan and
    standard weights in the other to find what the
    object weighs.
  • Bar Graph - A graph drawn using rectangular bars
    to show how large each value is. The bars can be
    horizontal or vertical.

  • Base (geometry) - The lowest part. The surface
    that a solid object stands on, or the bottom line
    of a shape such as a triangle or rectangle.
  • Base (numbers) - The Base (or Radix) is the
    number of digits in a number system. The decimal
    number system that we use every day has 10 digits
    (0,1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9) and so it is Base-10. Base
    is also the number that is going to be raised to
    a power. Example in 8², 8 is the base

  • Base Ten System is another name for the decimal
    number system that we use every day.
  • Bi - A prefix meaning "two"
  • Billion - Usually means a thousand millions.
    1,000 x 1,000,000 1,000,000,000 (A 1 followed
    by 9 zeros)
  • Bisect or Bisector - To divide into two equal
    parts. You can bisect lines, angles, and more.
    The dividing line is called the "bisector"

  • Boundary - A line or border around the outside of
    a shape. It defines the space or area. Countries
    have borders, and so do triangles and circles,
    etc.
  • Brackets - Are symbols used in pairs to group
    things together. Types of brackets include
    parentheses or "round brackets" ( ) "square
    brackets" or "box brackets" braces or "curly
    brackets" "angle brackets" lt gt
  • Breadth - Means width
