2I guess I worked for 15 years before I realised
that management is there to help you. I always
thought that management was a punishment from
God.
1999 It seemed that some managers helped their
people to do their jobs and other managers
didnt. then I remembered Philip Crosbys
Quality Man video
3If
Quality
Sustainability
Then
Sustainability is all about conformance to
requirements
4- On page 3 you will notice two questions
- Who challenges the sustainable way and why do
they do so? - How can these challenges be overcome?
At the end of my presentation you should be able
to answer these in your own words.
5- We need to deal with sustainability issues by
speaking with people.
6- The other part of my framework is mood.
- Mood is composed of
- Rights
- Duties
- Moral Order
- Actions
You could say that mood is a description of
culture.
7- I believe that
- The reality we communicate within is created by
ourselves and others. - We each have an ability to alter that reality.
8Two people meet speak impose their view. Each
conversation has an impact on reality. Cumulative
impact. 100,000 people SLF
So What?
9How do you feel if you sit at a table that
wobbles? Do you try to level off one leg fold a
piece of cardboard and stuff it under the
shortest leg?
Align mood by adjusting one of the four
components.
10CEOs who deal with sustainablility well Clearly
understand mood align the mood by adjusting one
or all of these four components. They speak with
people.
11The interaction of each of these components
generates a social phenomena I call it a mood I
only have 50 minutes today. So, I will only
discuss Rights
Rights is most important get that correct and
12Rights
People perceive they have certain rights. Problem
if rights are at odds with organisation. Leaders
challenge inappropriate rights. The system !
13What do people think they can get away with doing
in order to maximise their remuneration?
Leaders need to notice the current situation.
Leaders need to envisage a future state of
affairs and then attract others to that vision.
What about the recalcitrants?
If recalcitrants are let alone the sustainable
way will not happen.
If the system continues to reward people for not
following the sustainable way then the
sustainable way will not happen.
14The recent Cole Inquiry into bribery and
corruption
The system underlying mood rewards kickbacks.
People will lose money if they do not accept
kickbacks.
Should people have the right to accept kickbacks?
15Deal with the Residue
Questions?
