Articles of Confederation
  • In your notebook, write down any problems you
    hear about the Articles of Confederation.
  • Are there any good things about it?

Annapolis Convention
  • The states wanted to get together and talk about
    the problems they were having under the Articles
    of Confederation.
  • Only 5 out of 13 States show up
  • SHOWS THE GOVERNMENT IS TOO WEAK!

Shays Rebellion
  • After the war, farmers have overgrown farms and
    no money. They have to get loans to fix their
    farms.
  • When they can not pay their loans off their farms
    get taken from them.

Shays Rebellion
  • Daniel Shays leads all of these angry farmers in
    a revolt.
  • They take over an arsenal, to get weapons and
    shut down the courts.
  • These actions showed just how weak the federal
    government was.

    meet in Philadelphia in 1787.
  • Why do you think Rhode Island didnt want to come?

How many Representatives?
  • One problem at the Constitutional Convention was
    how many Representatives each state should get.
  • States with a lot of people want lots of
    Representatives.
  • States with less people want just as many
    Representatives.

  • Means to have only one of something.
  • Unicameral Legislature means to only have one
    house.
  • Virginia Plan and NJ Plan both only want one
    house.

    have two houses also

  • Roger Sherman of Connecticut
  • Says both ideas are fair and to make a
    compromise.
  • Have a bicameral Legislature
  • One house is based on population.
  • One house is based on equality

  • Representatives for each State vary depending on
    population.

Federal System
  • System of Government in which the National
    Government shares powers with the State
    Governments.
  • Characterized by a system of checks and balances
    to keep each branch from becoming too strong, and
    doing illegal things
