Declaration of Independence

• 11 June 1776 Congress authorizes a committee to
  draft a statement of independence. The committee
  was formed by Thomas Jefferson, John Adams,
  Benjamin Franklin, Roger Sherman, and Robert
  Livingston.

• Committee selects Jefferson to write document. In
  writing the document Jefferson drew on two
  philosophies to convey the idea of independence
• Lockes philosophy Implicit Social Compact.
