BACKGROUND INFORMATION
Highly successful baseball players have
historically claimed that they can see the spin
of a baseball and can use this information to
anticipate the trajectory and know where they
need to swing in order to make contact with the
ball. There are 6 basic types of pitches. These
are listed below Fastball Curve
Ball Slider Screw Ball Palm Ball Knuckle
Ball To better visualize these pitches, please
refer to the images of these pitches listed in
figure seen below.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION
Each of these pitches has a different spin and
trajectory. These are caused by different grips
of the ball. There are four types of grips.
These are listed below Two-Seam Grip Four-Seam
Grip Palm Grip Knuckle Grip These grips of the
ball combined with different velocities will
determine where the ball will travel. It is
estimated that 90 of all pitches are the Slider,
Fastball, or Curveball. These pitches utilize the
two-seam and four-seam grip. The Two-Seam, Four
Seam, and Palm Grip can be seen in the figure
below.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION
Each of these three pitches forces the ball to
behave differently. Each of these pitches has a
different distinguishable axis of rotation.
These axes are seen in the figures below.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION
When the balls are rotating, they each have
different clues that a batter could recognize.
This would help the batter predict the trajectory
of the ball. Images of what the different
rotating pitches look like can be seen in the
following tutorials.
