What is the Black Childrens Achievement
Programme? It is a Programme which was developed
by the Primary National Strategy in partnership
with the DfES Ethnic Minority Achievement
Project. The programme was initiated to focus on
the expertise and confidence of mainstream staff
in meeting the needs of African/Caribbean
learners. Promotes a Teacher as Researcher
model

Aims The Programme aims to

• develop the knowledge and understanding of
  specific issues around Black childrens
  achievement
• equip us with the skills to respond to them
• produce models of good practice for dissemination
  within school and beyond.

Impact of EMA Programmes on National Results

• In 2006 at KS2 L4 Bangladeshi, Pakistani, Black
  African and Black Caribbean pupils all scored
  below national averages in English and Maths
  gap significantly wider in Maths for all these
  groups
