What Has Been Will Continue to Be

• Academic libraries are in the business of service
• From Administration to Systems and everything in
  between we are here to serve our clientele
• Clientele can be
• Patrons
• Different units within the library
• Other service providers on campus or off
• What will change is HOW we provide this service

• Every department in the library from
  administration to systems is in the business of
  service
• We all have specific clientele but ultimately we
  all serve the patrons of the library
• How we provide our service will change as we move
  forward

Technological Advancements

• Technology is changing what services we offer and
  how we will offer them
• Integrated Library System
• Ebooks
• Centralized printing
• We have a clientele who demand and we are in a
  position to deliver more

We are getting older and they are getting younger

• Faculty and librarians are part of the ageing
  group of professionals
• The average first year student was born in 1984
• Grown up with the Internet, Brittany Spears, body
  piercing pink hair
• They now have laptops, PDA, pagers, cell phones
  and their own websites
• They expect and demand technology to change and
  provide opportunities

• Paper will be used for pleasure reading only

• Computers/Internet will rule
• They will demand we keep up
