Introduction Data extraction relates to the
procedure of obtaining the information required
for Pinch Analysis from a given process
flowsheet. It is possible to perform heat
integration analysis for a new project or as part
of a retrofit analysis of an existing process,
which is the case in this paper. The main source
of information is a converged simulation, but
other sources of information such as equipment
placement, automated control strategies, safety
hazards should be considered.
The Main GUI Tab Sheets
  • Objectives
  • establish the rules for transferring data from
    process simulation software to process
    integration software
  • - establish the communication mode with HYSYS
server and with DPI-UMIST (SPRINT and STAR )
    applications
  • - create the software engine for automatic data
extraction from HYSYS simulation for use in
    DPI-UMIST process integration software
  • - checkout the results acquired with the new
    interface (case study)

Open a browser for selecting the location of the
SPRINT application
selecting HYSYS case file and
selecting path for SPRINT file
Open a browser for selecting the location of the
HYSYS application
Viewer for build streams
The structure of the material streams
Original name of the material stream in HYSYS
file
The structure of the energy streams

Stream in process simulation
  • Stream in process integration
  • The stream data for a process is defined as the
information relating to the streams which require
    heating and cooling.
  • The information required for a stream includes
  • supply temperature (TS)
  • target temperature (TT)
  • heat capacity (CP) (CP m.Cp
  • where m mass flowrate).

Close Sprint file
Save SPRINT file

Restore all settings to default value and close
communications with all PinchTech file
Open an existing PinchTech file
Save user configuration and streams structure in
a new PinchTech file

Conclusions
  • PinchTech is a evolutive instrument, which can
    be easy used for extracting
  • data from HYSYS simulation
  • PinchTech extracted data are in good
    concordance with manually extracted
  • data
  • For complex HYSYS simulations the time required
    for data extraction is
  • significant reduced
