decisions that will improve his/her
understandings and achievement levels.
A means to determine a students mastery
and understanding of information, skills,
concepts, or processes.
Any method, strategy or process used to determine
a students current level of readiness or
interest in order to plan for appropriate
instruction.
4Data Sources and Timelines
- Choose a few useful assessments and implement
them throughout the school - Use a common spreadsheet to record data
- Plan for assessments at regular intervals
- Use assessment results to change groupings
(emphasize that groups can change more frequently
based on performance)
5Forming the Flexible Groups
- Establish various groups for various needs
- Ensure that groups change quarterly at a minimum
- Establish the purpose of the grouping

- You dont have to meet with every group every
day - You should meet with your struggling readers
daily - Center activity check sheets will keep students
on task and remove the rigidity of rotating
groups
