How old are volcanoes ?
  • Volcanoes have been on earth since the dinosaurs
but we really dont know how old they are because
since the creation of the known universe they
have been here erupting and preserving things
    from long forgotten civilisations.

SUPER VOLCANOES
  • Super volcanoes
  • A super volcano is the one of the most
destructive forces on this planet. Only a few
exist in the world and when they erupt they do so
with a force thousands of times greater than
other eruptions. They even threaten the survival
of mankind. The long-term effects would be even
more devastating. The thousands of cubic
kilometres of ash that would shoot into the
atmosphere could block out light from the sun,
making global temperatures plummet. This is
called a nuclear winter. A super volcano eruption
could truly be an extinction level event. There
is no way to stop it, no where to run and no
    where to hide.

More on Mount Etna
  • Friday, 31 March, 2000, 1213 GMT 1313 UK
  • Etna hoops it up
  • The "steam rings" are about 200m across
  • By BBC News Online science editor Dr David
    Whitehouse
  • Volcanologists have witnessed dramatic rings of
steam and gas being blown out of volcanic vents
on the side of mighty Mount Etna in Sicily.
  • Etna is the tallest and most active volcano in
Europe, situated where the European and African
    geological plates are colliding.

6
More on Mount Etna continued
  • Such rings have never been seen in such detail
beforeDr Jug Alean and Dr Marco Fulle have been
investigating Etna's growing level of activity
and in February they saw the ejection of several
spectacular hoops from the Bocca Nuova region of
    the mountain.

conclusion
  • Volcanoes are very dangerous and should be
approached with extreme caution and are very
wondrous things that we still dnt know a lot
    about.
