Title: THE GOOD WAY
1THE GOOD WAY
2Jeremiah 616
Thus saith the LORD, Stand ye in the ways, and
see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good
way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for
your souls. But they said, We will not walk
therein.
3A Plea for Righteousness
- Find Gods Way
- Stand ye in the ways
- (Matt 713-14) Enter ye in at the strait gate
for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that
leadeth to destruction, and many there be which
go in thereat Because strait is the gate, and
narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and
few there be that find it.
4- Stand Ye
- Stop
- See
- Look
- Ask
- Listen
- Walk
5Walk in the Good Way
- The Way God Commands
- (Matt 721) Not every one that saith unto me,
Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of
heaven but he that doeth the will of my Father
which is in heaven. - Jesus Christ
- (John 146) Jesus saith unto him, I am the way,
the truth, and the life no man cometh unto the
Father, but by me.
6Impossible to come unto God without going through
Jesus
For all have sinned, and come short of the glory
of God
- (Rom 59) Much more then, being now justified by
his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through
him. - Why Wrath? (Rom 323)
- (Isa 591-2) Behold, the LORD's hand is not
shortened, that it cannot save neither his ear
heavy, that it cannot hear But your iniquities
have separated between you and your God, and your
sins have hid his face from you, that he will not
hear. - Must get rid of our sins to walk in the way!
7Jeremiah Pleaded with Them to Find the Good Way
- They said, We will not walk therein.
- Stubborn to the Truth
- Hardened their hearts to do what they want!
Isnt that a horrible attitude to have?
8Naaman Had this Attitude
- Sent for Help Called for Elisha
- Elisha told him, Go and wash in the Jordan seven
times, and thy flesh shall come again to thee,
and thou shalt be clean. (2 Kings 510) - Sent a messenger wouldnt even go himself
- (Vs 11) But Naaman was wroth, and went away, and
said, Behold, I thought, He will surely come out
to me, and stand, and call on the name of the
LORD his God, and strike his hand over the place,
and recover the leper.
9Naaman Had this Attitude
- (2 Kings 513) And his servants came near, and
spake unto him, and said, My father, if the
prophet had bid thee do some great thing,
wouldest thou not have done it? how much rather
then, when he saith to thee, Wash, and be clean? - Naaman changed his attitude and walked in the
way of God
10Many are like this today
- Heart felt religion will not save wrong way
- (Jeremiah 1023) O LORD, I know that the way of
man is NOT in himself it is NOT in man that
walketh to direct his steps. - Cant guide our own steps must rely on God!
11The Plea to walk in the Good Way is
- A Plea for congregations to be built upon the
Rock
12Built Upon the Rock
- (1 Peter 24-5) To whom coming, as unto a living
stone, disallowed indeed of men, but chosen of
God, and precious, Ye also, as lively stones, are
built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood,
to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to
God by Jesus Christ. - (1 Cor 311) For other foundation can no man lay
than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ.
13Built Upon the Rock
- The Church was built on Christ
- (Matt 1618) And I say also unto thee, That thou
art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my
church and the gates of hell shall not prevail
against it.
14Built Upon the Rock
(James 121-25) Wherefore lay apart all
filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and
receive with meekness the engrafted word, which
is able to save your souls. But be ye doers of
the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your
own selves. For if any be a hearer of the word,
and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding
his natural face in a glass For he beholdeth
himself, and goeth his way, and straightway
forgetteth what manner of man he was. But whoso
looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and
continueth therein, he being not a forgetful
hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be
blessed in his deed.
(Matt 724-27) Therefore whosoever heareth these
sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him
unto a wise man, which built his house upon a
rock And the rain descended, and the floods
came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that
house and it fell not for it was founded upon a
rock. And every one that heareth these sayings
of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened
unto a foolish man, which built his house upon
the sand And the rain descended, and the floods
came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that
house and it fell and great was the fall of it.
- We as individuals must be built upon this Rock
- Must Hear and do
15Built Upon the Rock
- How do we build upon the Rock?
- Hear and Do the Words of Christ
- Faith not founded in a Human Creed
- Faith in Christ
- What if we come across something that we dont
hear in the word of God? - Keep from it
- Build upon some other foundation
16The Plea to walk in the Good Way is
- A Plea for congregations to be built upon the
Rock - A Plea for congregations to do all things in the
name of the Lord
17Do All Things in the Name of the Lord
- (Col 317) And whatsoever ye do in word or deed,
do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving
thanks to God and the Father by him. - Word
- Things taught and said
- Deed
- Things Done
- (Prov 35-6) Trust in the LORD with all thine
heart and lean not unto thine own understanding.
In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall
direct thy paths.
18Do All Things in the Name of the Lord
- To do all things in the name of the Lord is to do
things by his authority Those things that hes
commanded us - (1 Thess 41-2) Furthermore then we beseech you,
brethren, and exhort you by the Lord Jesus, that
as ye have received of us how ye ought to walk
and to please God, so ye would abound more and
more. For ye know what commandments we gave you
by the Lord Jesus.
19The Plea to walk in the Good Way is
- A Plea for congregations to be built upon the
Rock - A Plea for congregations to do all things in the
name of the Lord - A Plea for Christians to act as Christians
20Christians Need to Act Like Christians
- Service to God by having compassion
- (James 127) Pure religion and undefiled before
God and the Father is this, To visit the
fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to
keep himself unspotted from the world. - Keep ourselves unspotted from the world
- (James 121) Wherefore lay apart all filthiness
and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with
meekness the engrafted word, which is able to
save your souls. - Keep from sin!
- Resist evil
21Christians Need to Act Like Christians
- Must continue to Grow
- (1 Peter 22) As newborn babes, desire the
sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow
thereby - (2 Peter 318) But grow in grace, and in the
knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen.
22Christians Need to Act Like Christians
- Must teach others
- Commanded duty to spread the gospel
- (Matt 2819-20) Go ye therefore, and teach all
nations, baptizing them in the name of the
Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost
Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I
have commanded you and, lo, I am with you alway,
even unto the end of the world. Amen.
23The Good Way
(Jeremiah 616) Thus saith the LORD, Stand ye in
the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths,
where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye
shall find rest for your souls. But they said, We
will not walk therein.
24Will You Walk Therein?
