  • European research Council ERC
  • Ideas Work Programme which is funding stream of a
    new institution the European Research Council
    ERC, the first pan-European funding body set up
    to support investigator-driven frontier research.
  • The main aim of the newly-established body is to
    stimulate scientific excellence by supporting and
    encouraging the very best, truly creative
    scientists, engineers and scholars to be
    adventurous and take risks in their research. The
    scientists should go beyond established frontiers
    of knowledge and the boundaries of discipline.

  • Ideas Work Programme
  • Two types of ERC grants will be available.
    bottom-up basis without predetermined
    priorities and across all research fields.
  • Starting Independent Researcher Grants or 'ERC
    Starting Grants' will provide support to the
    independent careers of excellent researchers,
    whatever their nationality, located in or moving
    to the EU and associated countries, who are at
    the stage of establishing or consolidating their
    research team or program. 100,000 / 400,000
    per year for a period of up to 5 years. it is
    estimated that around 200 Starting Grants could
    be made annually.
  • 2) Advanced Investigator Grants or 'ERC
    Advanced Grants' will support excellent research
    projects lead by established top research
    leaders, working in or moving to work in Europe,
    whatever their nationality.
  • The first call ( 300 Mio.) deadline 25 April
    2007 - only for Starting Grants. The Advanced
    Grant will be introduced in the second call (
    550 Mio.) for proposals in the second half of
    2007.
  • From 2008 annual calls (approx. 1 billion per
    year) will be held for both ERC Starting and
    Advanced Grants.

  • 'New Opportunities for Research Funding Agency
    Co-operation in Europe
  • NORFACE is a partnership between twelve national
    social science research councils (Estonia,
    Denmark, Finland, Germany, Iceland, Ireland, The
    Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Slovenia, Sweden
    and the United Kingdom) to increase co-operation
    in research and research policy in Europe.

  • The competition is open to researchers from
    research institutions in the NORFACE partner
    countries.
  • The seminar series will enable researchers to
    engage in cross-border collaboration via regular
    meetings to exchange information, ideas and the
    organisation of a seminar with the aim of
    advancing research within their fields.
  • The maximum sum of 80.000 is available for up to
    two awards in each thematic area for a period of
    two years.
