4Security and Safety Notice
- There have been thefts of personal possessions
from offices and assets from the site. - You are reminded that it is your responsibility
to ensure all personal belongings are as
physically secure as possible. Lock up your
handbag or wallet or keep it about your person at
all times. Ensure that your windows are closed
and doors locked when leaving your office, even
for short periods of time. - Items of portable Laboratory equipment must, when
not in use and unattended, be kept in locked
cupboards, laboratories or offices. GPC cards
should also be kept secure when not in use. - Staff witnessing unusual or suspicious behaviour
or who discover items missing, should notify the
Security Reception Ext. 3277 immediately.
5Fire Warden Notice - Andy Sharp
- We are looking for volunteers to be Fire Wardens
across the site, so are you interested? Ideally,
we would like people supporting all areas on site
(i.e. dedicated zones within each building) as
well as deputies to cover leave or unplanned
absences. The main duties of a Fire Warden are - Encouraging people to respond to the fire alarm
and leave the building - Reporting at the specified Muster (Fire Assembly)
Point the clearance of their area or the number
and locations of people still in the building - Advising of any shortcomings during fire drills
in the fire safety processes and procedures (e.g.
defective fire alarm sounders, areas where the
alarm cannot be heard, etc) or conduct of the
drill (e.g. use of wrong exits, etc) - Carrying out regular checks to ensure that the
provision of fire safety in their area is
suitable and sufficient

8Halton Borough Council Environmental Protection
Act
- Halton Borough Council correspondence dated 4th
July 2005, regarding the deposit of controlled
waste on land adjacent to Keckwick Lane Bridge,
which contravenes the Environmental Protection
Act 1990 , section 33. - The content of the waste included papers with
Daresbury Laboratory headings, which is deemed to
be confidential, together with general food
wrapping, this indicates that the waste from

- RECYCLING ARRANGEMENTS AT DARESBURY
- COLLECTION OF WASTE PAPER
- A contract has been in place since 3 June 2002
with Cleanaway Ltd. for the collection of waste
paper for recycling. The range of paper types to
be recycled includes- - white paper ,computer paper ,coloured paper
,photocopy/fax paper,NCR advice/delivery notes
,invoices, letter heads ,memos and business forms
,junk mail (polythene sleeves/envelopes removed)
,journals ,reports etc. (plastic binding removed)
- Staples, pins and paper clips attached to the
above need not be removed. - NOT ALLOWED are- envelopes, post-it notes
,newspapers and magazines, carbon/wax coated
paper ,wet strength labels ,polythene/plastic - double sided plastic coated paper (laminated)
.manila folders,lever arch/box files (or similar)
,cardboard ,metal ,wood and glass
10Waste Management
- Method of Collection
- Office and desktop collection boxes are available
from Stores on Ext. 3437. A member of the
cleaning staff will empty your box - normally
once a month. - Waste paper (or any other items) must not be left
in corridors to await collection as this causes a
tripping hazard. - Paper unacceptable for recycling should be placed
in office litter bins. - Bulk Disposal
- Staff wishing to dispose of large amounts of -
- waste paper suitable for recycling,
- paper and other office waste for landfill
dumping, or - packaging materials (which are dumped only if
they cannot be reused by the Laboratory), - should contact Stores on Ext. 3437 who can
usually arrange for collection within 1 working
day. - In Confidence and Protectively Marked waste
- Protectively marked (Top Secret, Secret,
Confidential and Restricted) material must be
disposed of in an approved manner. - A separate arrangement exists for the disposal of
In Confidence waste with a company called
ShredFast who provide a secure on-site shredding
service. They can also dispose of videotapes and
floppy disks. Contact Site Operations on Ext.
3116, who can advise you on disposal arrangements
11HBC - Outcome
- This was not a deliberate act and the businesses
prompt response/investigation and subsequent
remediation/improvement of environmental outcomes
means that - Halton Borough Council will not be pursing the
matter further, on this occasion.

78Keckwick Lane and Innovation Way
- Halton Borough Council has completed the signage
and speed retardant surfaces, the construction of
the raised mini round about is still in
progress. The new link road to the Expressway
has been named Innovation Way and was opened on
Thursday 24th March 2005. Following the opening
there has been a marked increase in traffic on
Keckwick Lane, because drivers can see the short
cut up to the A56 and M56, if the traffic is
backing up on the A56 Daresbury Expressway
roundabout. This has been reported to Halton
Borough Council
