THE LORD IS COMPASSIONATE Isaiah 541-10
  • Introduction
  • The theme for this month is Affirm Spiritual
    Certainties,
  • Focus Messages of comfort and encouragement for
sinners who turn to the Lord for help.
  • This morning's spiritual certainty - The Lord is
    Compassionate
  • MESSAGE of Isaiah
  • The people have sinned against the Lord, and
judgment was coming to the land.
  • Emphasis on the Holiness of God
  • He is the Holy One of Israel
  • Also emphasis on the Sovereignty of God over the
    NATIONS!
  • Overall message To call the people to become a
    Holy nation!

2
Restoration to JOY (Isa 54 1)
  • God will restore the nation to JOY.
  • Occasion for singing. A time of glorious praise.
  • When in exile and in captivity, they cannot sing
    the songs of victory.
  • Psalms 1371-4
  • By the rivers of Babylon we sat and wept when we
remembered Zion. There on the poplars we hung our
harps, for there our captors asked us for songs,
our tormentors demanded songs of joy they said,
Sing us one of the songs of Zion!
  • How can we sing the songs of the Lord while in a
    foreign land.

3
  • The image of Israel is of a woman who is barren,
    not able to produce children.
  • Barrenness was therefore a cause for sorrow and
    shame.
  • Hannah in 1 Samuel 1, was in misery because she
    had no children.
  • But God opened her womb.
  • She prayed My heart rejoices in the Lord in
the Lord my horn is lifted high. My mouth boasts
over my enemies, for I delight in your
    deliverance. (1 Sam 21)

4
  • God wants to free us from the bondage of sin and
to live in freedom as sons and daughters of God.
  • Have a sense of celebration when we come to
    worship Him.
  • Delight in His deliverance like Hannah
  • God wants to restore to us the JOY of our
    salvation.
  • Burst into song, shout for joy!.

5
2. Restoration to FRUITFULNESS (ISA 542-3)
  • The nation will increase and need more space.
  • Not simply be returning to a former state of
prosperity, but they will reach new heights and
    influence.
  • When we are in bondage to sin we are like the
    barren woman.
  • We will not be fruitful in your Christian life.
  • What do we mean by being fruitful?
  • And we pray this in order that you may live a
life worthy of the Lord and may please him in
every way bearing fruit in every good work,
growing in the knowledge of God. (Col 110)

6
  • FRUITFULNESS
  • Effective in winning souls.
  • Increasing in the gifts of the Spirit to serve
    others.
  • God can empower you with the Gifts of the Spirit
to enable you to serve the church.
  • Each one should use whatever gift he has
    received to serve others, faithfully
administering Gods grace in its various forms.
    (1 Peter 410)
  • Increase in the fruit of the Spirit.
  • The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace,
    patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,
    gentleness and self-control. (Gal 522)

7
  • Not only can God restore but He can also increase
their fruitfulness beyond what they were before.
  • you will spread out to the right and to the
left your descendents will dispossess nations
and settle in their desolate cities. (verse 3)
  • What great potential you have when you return to
    God.
  • God will not limit you.

8
3. Restoration to CONFIDENCE (Isa 54 4-10)
  • But there will be a restoration of confidence for
    Israel.
  • The Lord told them, Do not be afraid you will
    not suffer shame (Verse 4)
  • Key to understanding why they were fearful is the
    word widowhood.

9
  • Three (3) reasons God gave why they can place
    their Confidence in HIM
  • 1. The Lord Forgives the PAST. (4-5)
  • For I will forgive their wickedness and will
remember their sins no more. (Jer 3134)
  • 2. The Lord Love is everlasting (6-8)
  • 3. The Lord Honors His Covenant (9-10)

10
  • But God wants the best for the nation of Israel
    and for US!
  • Live up to your greatest potential to be
fruitful in our lives. To fulfill His purpose He
    has for you.
  • Not to live this life in fear
  • Fear of the future. Fear of people.
  • Fear of man will prove to be a snare, but
whoever trusts in the Lord is kept safe.
    (Proverbs 2925)
  • We are NOT to live like spiritual widows.
  • Feeling insecure about our live and our future,
  • God is NOT dead but working in your lives.
  • Jesus says, "Everything is possible for him who
    believes." (Mark 923).
