Game Overview
  • Have you ever felt an unwelcome drop of bird
    poop in your hair? Or that nasty stain on you
    new shirt? Our games mission is how to solve
    these problems. Heres the idea The bird poop
    falls from the birds flying across the top of the
    screen. A cannon is located in the bottom middle
    of the screen, and it shoots fireballs to destroy
    the bird poop. The cannon rotates in a
    semi-circular fashion. On either side of the
    cannon are various celebrity heads. Your job is
    to protect these stars from the hailstorm of bird
    droppings. Shoot all the poop or the birds
    before your heads have been soiled, and you win
    the level! You will then advance to a more
    difficult level. If, however, the poop hits all
    of the celebrity heads, then you lose all of your
    points and the game is over.

Game Design
  • Sprites include the pieces of bird poop the
    birds the cannon the fire balls launched by
    user images of celebrities heads, (tentatively
    fancy cars and food for subsequent levels).
  • Trackers attached to 1) the bird poop falling
    vertically from the birds at the top of the
    screen, 2) the birds flying horizontally across
    the top, 3) the fire balls moving in a straight
    line that depends upon the angle of the cannons
    turret, and 4) the cannon rotating in a
    semi-circular path.
  • Collisions When the fire balls collides with a
    piece of bird poop, the bird poop will disappear
    and the user will hear a torch sound. When the
    bird poop hits a celebrity, his or her head will
    disappear from the screen after a squishy sound
    effect.
  • Score user will receive 5 points for each bird
    poop that is burned and 25 points at the end of
    the level for each remaining head score will be
    kept on the side of the screen.

Game Design - continued
  • Levels the user advances to the next level once
    20 bird poops have been successfully hit at each
    level, the bird poop will descend faster and more
    frequently, and the targets will change to larger
    ones which are more difficult to protect. Splash
    screens will also change to distinguish between
    the three levels.
  • Splash Screens Played at the introduction of the
    game and at the beginning and end of each level,
    with effects and images specific to the level
    (i.e. a picture of martha Stewart for level 1, a
    ferrari for level 3, etc. )
  • Game over When all the heads have been struck by
    a bird poop, a Splat Screen will inform you
    that youve lost the game.

Basic Game
  • We will place the buttons quit, help, and
    start on the east side of our border layout.
    The score will be kept in a JTextField above
    these three buttons, forming a sort of control
    panel on the right side of the screen and leaving
    the majority of the window for the game itself.
  • As far as the layout within the game
    window, the three celebrity heads will be on
    either side of the cannon at the bottom. The
    cannon will be a rectangle with a line extending
    from the top that will serve as a launching
    turret for the fireballs. The fireballs will be
    circular images of flames, and the bird poop will
    be irregularly-shaped imageSprites. By clicking
    the mouse, the user controls the destination of
    the fireball, and the turret will adjust its
    angle to this target based on polar coordinates.

Possible Enhancements
  • If we have time, we would love to add different
    levels. By increasing the speed and frequency of
    bird droppings, we could make successive levels
    more challenging. In this case, we would replace
    the celebs with luxury cars, clean clothes, food,
    or something else you would never want a bird to
    fly over.
  • If the user clicks the mouse a second time, the
    fireball will expand in a farther-reaching
    explosion (The spite will enlarge in an expanding
    circle). If this explosion intersects with
    multiple pieces of bird poop, it will destroy all
    of them.
  • A Nuke the Poop button that destroys all of the
    bird poop on the screen when you are too
    overwhelmed with it. You can use this feature
    only once per level.
  • A high score list could keep track of the highest
    scores achieved in another JTextField on the east
    side of the border layout.

Timeline
  • The design of the video game classes, methods and
    state will be completed by April 5
  • One week later on April 13, the basic game will
    be implemented.
  • Testing and debugging will be finished by April
    16.
  • The game will be documented by April 20.
  • The remaining time will be spent enhancing the
    game.
  • Release is pending upon successful completion.
