- Building competitive productive capacity is
crucial to the use of trade as an engine of
development, as well as to the success of the
development process. - UN must play its full role in this regard.
Trade and productive capacity building should,
therefore, constitute a pivotal component of the
UN country assistance plans . -
3What are the main goals and features of the
Cluster?
- The Cluster 13 members UNCTAD, UNIDO, UNDP,
ITC,WTO, - FAO, the five UN Regional Commissions, UNEP,
UNOPS, and - cooperation with other agencies as needed.
- Design and implementation of interagency
coordinated activities - Promote trade and productive capacity assistance
in UN country plans - Contribute to complementarities between the
assistance provided by all members of the Cluster
including through the Enhanced Integrated
Framework (EIF) and the Aid for Trade initiative
4Examples of EIF and UN plans made convergent and
coherent by the Cluster
- In the One UN Pilot Mozambique, the activities
under the One UN Joint Programme entitled
"Building Capacities for Effective Trade Policy
Formulation and Management" directly refer to the
EIF. - In the One UN Pilot Rwanda, the One UN activities
entitled "Institutional capacities to improve
business environment strengthened" directly refer
to the EIF - Similar approach is currently being adopted by
the Cluster in the One UN Pilots Cape Verde and
Tanzania and Countries which have adopted a
Delivering as One approach such as Afghanistan,
Bhutan, Comoros, Lao PDR

- Interagency missions to the field
- Resource Guide on Trade and Capacity Building
- Aid for Trade Needs Assessment Guide
- Operations grounded in the DTIS and the UN
country processes in view of ensuring ownership
