Visiting Examiner

• Will be provided free of charge
• Will be a sympathetic and objective examiner
• Will engage candidates in a discussion about
  their presentation
• Will conduct a conversation with candidates on
  general themes of interest to candidates.

Structure of speaking test

• Presentation - 3 minutes.
• Candidates will not be interrupted and will have
  access to pro-forma
• Questions on presentation 2 minutes.
• Examiner will engage in discussion with
  candidate on aspects of presentation
• General conversation 8-9 minutes.
• Examiner will ask candidates questions on
  general themes of interest to candidate

• Presentation. 20 marks. Assessing AO2 knowledge
  of topic.
• Questions on presentation. 10 marks. Assessing
  AO1 ability to respond to questions and take
  initiative
• General conversation. 40 marks. Assessing AO1 (
  30) and AO3 (10) command of idiom and
  vocabulary

Pro- forma

• Must be submitted to CCEA by end of December /
  end of March
• Should contain title and approx 5 headings
• Must contain no more than 60 words excluding
  title
• The candidate may not make any additions to this
  after the submission date
• May be used as a prompt by candidates during
  their presentation

• 2 questions set from 3 contexts
• Candidates answer 1 question only
• Candidates write 200-250 words
• Questions each with 3 bullet points candidates
  advised to address each bullet point.

  understanding, ability to respond to question and
  personal engagement.
