• Ds - f p
• Ds - ? p, ? - ? ?
• Ds - ? p, ? - p p- p0
• Ds - ? p, ? - ? p p-, ? - ? ?
• Ds - ? p, ? - ? p p-, ? - p p- p0
• In some of these, the p can be replaced by a ?

• We start with some data we expect to contain the
  interesting events, then CUT
• For example,

What does the data look like?

Other considerations

• To turn data points into something we can
  interpret, we have to fit them.
• We also must simulate these modes so we can
  understand if the cuts we make to find a signal
  throw away too many good events
