Benchmarks
15Generating Answer Sheets
Click on the Benchmark Exams tab and then the
Assessments icon. On the left side of your
screen, click on your grade level and subject
area (only one test answer sheet may be printed
at a time). Next, click the Benchmark test on the
right side of your screen. Make sure you have
clicked on the Benchmark test so it is
highlighted and turns yellow. Click the Print
Answer Sheets button at the bottom right of your
screen.
16Generating Answer Sheets
Leaving everything on this page as shown and
clicking Continue will ensure you print Per
Period and Generic answer sheets.
17Generating Answer Sheets
At the secondary level, select the period or
classes that will be taking the test you selected
on the prior screen. If you have classes that
take different assessments, you will have to
print the answer sheets individually.
18About the Answer Sheets
- There are two types of answer sheets you will be
using the per period answer sheet (students
names are listed on the answer sheet) and the
generic answer sheet (a student is not on the
per period answer sheet so the student bubbles in
his/her student ID number) - Both answer sheets are for the same test and can
be scanned with the Brother scanner.
19Example of Per Period Answer Sheet
If a student is listed on the per period answer
sheet, the student or teacher writes his/her
first and last name in the name blank in the
upper right-hand corner AND fills in the bubble
next to the students name on the left side of
the answer sheet. Print a class set of the per
period answer sheetsto the Lexmark at your
building.
20Example of Generic Answer Sheet
If a child is not listed on the per period answer
sheet, a generic answer sheet is used. The
student or teacher then bubbles that students ID
number in the boxes, beginning on the left and
working toward the right. Although there are
thirteen boxes, only five or six of the boxes
will be used for the student ID number. You may
include zeroes in front of the ID number, or you
may choose not to the scanner can read the
answer sheet either way. Do not skip boxes or add
zeroes to the end of the ID number or the scanner
cannot read the ID number for that student. Print
as many generic answer sheets as you need for
your class, remembering generic answer sheets are
only used for students not listed on the per
period answer sheets.
21Answer Sheet Scores
- Teachers should look at all answer sheets before
they are scanned - Ensure each child has written his or her name on
the name line AND bubbled in next to his or her
name. - Ensure there are no stray marks in the bar code
or white space of the answer sheet. - Ensure students have used a number 2 pencil to
bubble in their answer sheets. - Ensure none of the questions are left unanswered
allow ample time for students to finish taking
the test. If a child does not know the correct
answer, he/she should make an educated guess and
bubble in next to the answer he/she thinks is
correct for that question. - One Edusoft answer sheet per child is needed.
22Printing Another Benchmark Answer Sheet
- To print your benchmark answer sheets for the
next test at the secondary level, click back on
the Assessments icon and repeat the same process
again. Choose your next assessment and the class
periods that will take the nest test. - DO NOT USE THE BACK BUTTON!
23Scanning and Resolving Errors Scanning placing
the sheets of paper on a Brother Scanner to
create a computerized image of the answer sheet
for future processing. Resolving in a few
cases, the image will be rejected by the scoring
program. In this case, a human must determine
the cause of the error and tell the program what
to do with the image. If scanned answer sheets
that error in Edusoft for some reason are not
Resolved, the student will not receive a test
score. Sometimes, it maybe necessary to correct
an answer sheet and rescan.
24Finding the Grader on the Desktop
Locate the Edusoft Grader icon on the desktop
computer attached to the Brother Scanner in your
building. Double-click on the Edusoft Grader to
open it.
25Logging in to the Grader
Use your Edusoft user name and password to log
into the Grader on this screen. If this screen
does not come up, check the Internet connection
to this computer. If you continue to have
difficulty, contact the Edusoft Help Desk at
their toll-free number 866-433-8763, option 2.
26Loading the Answer Sheets
Follow the directions and tips on this page for
loading your answer sheets into the scanner. You
can scan up to 50 answer sheets per batch, but a
good rule of thumb is one class set at a time
because this number should never exceed 50.
The answer sheets can be loaded in either
direction (even mixed up within the stack) as
long as they are all face up. Always use the
scan button here on the screen. NEVER USE THE
SCAN BUTTON ON THE SCANNER ITSELF.
27Scanned Answer Sheets
Its good practice to always count the number of
answer sheets in the stack before running them
through the scanner. The program will tell you
how many sheets it scanned so you will know if
they were all scanned or not. Sometimes sheets
can stick together and more than one can go
through the scanner at once the scanner would
only read one of them.
If the number of answer sheets scanned does not
match the number you loaded into the scanner,
click the back icon and rescan that batch. If
the number matches your count, click the upload
icon.
28Uploading the Data
The Grader is now sending the data to the Edusoft
server via the Internet. Once sent and resolved,
you can begin pulling reports in Edusoft.
29Scan more or View Results
If you have more answer sheets to scan, click
Scan More. If youre finished, please click
Logout and then Exit the Grader go back to
your classroom and log into Edusoft
(www.Edusoft.com) to resolve answer sheet
failures there.

Here you will need to make some selections on how
you would like to search through scanning
sessions. The default is set to look for
sessions you scanned (using your user name and
log in the Grader) and to search for sessions
that were scanned today. Using the drop down
menu, you can make other selections. Once you
have made your selections, click on the View
button.

Since I did not log in using my username or
password on the Grader, I searched for
Period-Specific answer sheets in the last
week.
After clicking View, here is the list of scanning
sessions that fit this criteria. If I see the
session Im looking for, I click on the date and
time that are written in blue. This will take me
into a screen with the session summary details.
33View Results of Scanning Session
Here you can see a summary of the results for
your scanning session. This screen shows us that
out of our 19 pages we scanned, 6 sheets were
scanned successfully and 13 are unresolved, or
failures. The names of the successfully scanned
students answer sheets are listed below.
Why only 5 names listed.two students bubbled in
the same name from the roster. This will not
show up as a failurethe system will simply
overwrite the first one scanned with the second.
This is why teachers should double check the
bubbled in names before scanning. Good practice
is to put the answer sheets in alphabetic order
(based on the bubbles) before scanning to catch
this answer sheet error. You will need to
resolve the 13 errors.

Failures that need to be resolved offline
Here are the 13 unresolved answer sheets.
35Resolving Failed Scans Online
Heres an example from the first group.
36Resolving Failed Scans Online
This student bubbled in their own name and
Christophes. This is why its important for
students to write their name at the top of the
paper as well as fill in their name. This way
you know which student this answer sheet actually
belongs to. Its difficult to recognize students
by the way they filled in the bubbles.
37Resolving Failed Scans Online
Simply follow the directions on the screen.
38Resolving Failed Scans Online
Select the correct student then click continue.
39Resolving Failed Scans Online
You will then get a message confirming the
failure has been resolved. Click on the word
back to go back to the list of unresolved
scans.
40Resolving Failed Scans Offline
That answer sheet will no longer be on the list
of failed scans. Move on to the next answer sheet
that needs to be resolved.
41Resolved Failed Scans Offline
Remember to read here first
Read the reason for the failure first. Then read
the instructions for fixing it. Scroll down to
look at the image.
42Resolving Failed Scans Offline
This student wrote in the bar code so the system
doesnt know what assessment, school, teacher, or
period the data belongs to. If this occurs, you
or the student will need to transfer the
students responses to a new answer sheet and
rescan it.
43Resolving Failed Scans Offline
You will need to manually tell the system that
you have fixed the error on this type of
failure. Do NOT mark it as fixed until after
you have rescannedotherwise it will be off the
list of failures and you might forget about it.
44Resolving Failed Scans Offline
Click on the back link to return to the list of
failures.
45Resolved Errors
Now that weve resolved two errors the total
number of unresolved answer sheets is down to
11.
46Resolved Errors
The other error is simply marked as resolved by
us. After rescanningthat data will be added.
47Tip
- Spending a little time checking answer sheets
for omitted names and stray marks before you scan
will save you a lot of time in resolving errors
later.
