Tools and Materials Needed
  • Oil drain pan
  • Gloves
  • 17 mm wrench
  • Proper ratchet
  • Oil funnel
  • Proper oil for your bike
  • Paper towels
  • Treble light
  • Proper oil filter wrench
  • Proper oil filter for your bike

Step one
  • Warm the oil in the bike, run it for about three
    minutes.
  • Dont change the oil after a long ride because
    you will burn your self badly.

Step two
  • Access the oil fill cap
  • Remove the oil fill cap
  • This will make the oil drain faster

Step three
  • Draining the oil
  • Put oil drain pan under drain plug
  • Remove oil drain plug with 17 mm wrench
  • Let oil drain for about ten minutes

Step Four
  • Once the oil is completely drained you can put
    the drain plug back in
  • Make sure you dont tighten it too much, you
    dont want to strip the threads.
  • You should wipe the old oil off the plug before
    putting it back on

  • Changing the oil filter
  • Move the oil pan under the exhaust headers to
    catch the oil from the filter
  • You will have to take the front plastic piece off
    and remove the dirt guard to access the oil
    filter

Step six
  • Next put the filter wrench on the filter and
    loosen it
  • Once you have it loosened oil will start to drain
    out
  • Dont worry if you get oil on the exhaust pipes.

  • Once you have removed the oil filter place it in
    the drain pan
  • Then wipe off the area were the filter sits with
    a clean rag

  • Take the new filter out of the box
  • Put some new oil on your finger and run a bead
    around the dry rubber seal

  • Next put the new filter on
  • Tighten it by hand, when you feel resistance give
    it about another eighth of a turn
  • When your done with that you can put the dirt
    guard and front plastic piece back on

  • Next locate the oil fill plug again and add 3.25
    quarts of the proper oil
  • Put the plug back in and start the bike for about
    10 seconds
  • Take the plug back off and add enough more oil so
    that it equals 3.75 quarts all together
  • You can use a funnel to help from spilling

Step eleven
  • Have someone hold the bike so it is standing
    straight so you can check the oil
  • You should be at or under the high fill line
  • Make sure you put the oil fill plug back in
