ScopeCongressional Authorization
  • Section 1202, National Invasive Species Act of
    1990 (P.L. 101-636) amended through 96
  • Authorized 750,000 initially for a report to
    identify environmentally sound methods for
    preventing and reducing the dispersal of
    nonindigenous nuisance aquatic species between
    the Great Lakes-Saint Lawrence drainage and the
    Mississippi drainage through the Chicago Sanitary
    Ship Canal.

  • Demonstration study

    nuisance species dispersal via the Chicago
    Sanitary and Ship Canal.
  • San-Ship Canal provides the sole navigation
    corridor between the Great Lakes and Mississippi
    River.
