  with gravity to provide a moderate climate.
• The ATMOSPHERE protects us from high-energy
  radiation and the vacuum of space.

Troposphere

• TROPOSPHERE is the sphere of change.
• The TROPOSPHERE starts at the Earth's surface and
  extends 16 kilometers (km) high.
• The TROPOSHPERE is the most dense.

• As you climb higher in this layer, the
  temperature drops from about 17 to -52 degrees
  Celsius.
• Almost all weather is in this region.

Stratosphere

• STRATOSPHERE is the sphere of layers.
• STRATOSPHERE starts just above the TROPOSPHERE
  and extends 48 km (31 miles).
• The STATOSPHERE is drier and less dense than the
  TROPOSPHERE.

• The jet stream occurs between the TROPOSPHERE and
  the STRATOSPHERE.
• Temperatures in this region increase gradually to

  extends 80 km (53 miles).
• The temperature in this region falls as low as

  MESOSPHERE.
• The OZONE layer absorbs and scatters ultraviolet
  radiation.
