First Paragraph
  • Sentence 1 Grab sentence
  • One way to grab a person is to ask a question
    about the subject. Keep it general.

Thesis Sentence
  • A thesis is a list of topics that you will
    discuss in the body paragraph. Each part of the
    thesis represents an introduction to the topic
    sentences for each body paragraph.
  • Example I went to Mexico and played at the
    beach, in the pool and jet skied for the first
    time.
  • Played at the beach Topic Sentence Body

  • Structure Topic Sentence that connects to the
    thesis, three supporting detailed sentences and a
    concluding/summary sentence.
  • Example Topic Sentence At the resort, there
    were three swimming pools. Supporting Detail One
    pool was just for lap swimmers and we never went
    there. Supporting detail One pool had many
    different types of slides leading to the pool.
    Supporting Detail The last pool, was my favorite
    for we play pool volleyball and other group
    sports with lots of different people. Summary
    Sentence It was fun playing in the pools.

  • Structure Topic Sentence that connects to the

  • Example Topic Sentence I jet skied for the
    first time. Supporting detail I was scared at
    starting off because it was something new.
    Supporting detail I practiced making circles and
    going straight. Supporting detail The wind
    started blowing harder and created choppy waves.
    Concluding Sentence The choppy waves added to
    the excitement of jet skiing.

Concluding Paragraph
  • Structure
  • 1st sentence Links back to the opening paragraph
    usually you can answer your own question.
  • 2nd sentence Restates your thesis
  • 3rd 5th sentences A wrap up of some of the
    highlights.
  • Example Link My special vacation spot is
    Mexico. Restated Thesis I enjoyed playing at the
    beach, swimming in the pools, and jet skiing.
    Wrap Up I will always remember the good times I
    had in Mexico. I look forward to going there
    again really soon.

Picking A Title
  • The easiest way to pick a title is to look at the
    last sentence that you have written.
  • My Example I look forward to going there again
    really soon.
  • Then pick some choice words and maybe modifying
    it a little.
