Warm Up
  • About 5 minutes at a lower intensity
  • Slowly raises heart rate
  • Warms up muscles and tendons
  • Raises body temperature
  • Especially important with weight lifting

Cool Down
  • About 5 minutes at a lower intensity
  • Slowly reduces heart rate to near resting values
  • Removes lactic acid from muscles that is made
    during exercise
  • Facilitates appropriate circulatory adjustments
  • Reduces body temperature

Stretching
  • 2-3 days per week
  • Stretch until you feel mild discomfort
  • 10-30 seconds, 3-4 sets
  • Static stretching only- stretch and hold (no
    bouncing)
  • 1 stretch per large muscle group
  • (hamstrings, calfs, quads- for legs)
  • Increases flexibility which prevents injury
