Overview
Xinjiang Petroleum Administration Bureau (XPAB is
its shorthand) of CNPC lies in Kramay,and Kramay
lies in the North part of Xinjiang province.From
1951 to now, more than ten oil fields have been
surveyed and developed. At present, only in
Jungar basin,oil production has reached 9 million
tons, and natural gas production has reached
12 billion cubic meters yearly.

Distinguishing feature of Exploration Data
Warehouse
1) Relationship data model 2) Basically satisfy
the demand of exploration ,exploitation and
research 3) Data source unit is responsible for
the data collecting, data loading and data
quality controlling

Application of POSC Data Model
We have begun our POSC research work since
1997. We went to USA to inspect POSC
organization. Landmark Geoquest,PGS,PECC and some
oil operation company in 1998.

POSC Data Model cover the whole process of
petroleum and exploitation,it is advanced and
complete. Many application software product
service company claim that they support POSC
specification, and their products are POSC
compatible.

We chose POSC Data Model to build our Exploration
Data Warehouse in 1999. Basically a quantity work
is to map building the relation between
Exploration Data Warehouse and POSC Data
Model. Using EXPRESS-I to record mapping
relationship.

At present, we have finished mapping in well
logging, well test, geology logging, drilling
engineer four subjects altogether. The content
cover 13 subjects of POSC Data Model. They
are Activity. Coordinate systems, Document
Management, Earth Model, Equipment and
facilities., Geophysics High Level Model,
Materials and Material Analysis, Production
and Injection, Spatial Model, Well information,
Well logs and traces.

We have used more than 700 entities, over 1500
attributes of POSC Data Model.

We use EXPRESS - I and Entityloader to load
data, using PSQL to inquire data to examine the
correctness of mapping.

Inquiring system of POSC Data Model will be built
up in 2000. It will directly access data of
application software of some service companies.
Such as Landmark and Geoquest. We will remark
application of POSC Data Model sometime in the
future.

Problems and proposals
1)The semantic differences between English and
Chinese is the greatest difficulty in
mapping 2)POSC has less introduction documents to
guide how to use data model. It is not
convenient to use POSC specification.

During mapping process,we are lack of guide
from POSC organization. We hope we can
communicate with POSC organization conveniently
in working.
