- This tree is called the American Elm. It can be
located in all part of the lower peninsula of
Michigan
3Can you name this tree?
- Hint We tend to use these trees for Christmas
Trees. - This tree is called a Jack Pine. You can tell
because it has needles and cones instead of
leaves.
4What type of tree is this?
- This tree is becoming low in number but is still
a very famous tree in the northern parts of
Michigan. - This tree is called a Birch Tree.
5Can you name this tree?
- This tree is called a Mountain Ash. Even though
we do not have many mountains in Michigan we
still have the cold climates. - Do not eat the berries because they can be
poisonous.
6What type of tree is this?
- This tree has the seeds that we like to toss in
the air and watch them fall to the ground Like
Helicopters. - This tree is called a Maple Tree. It is native
to all parts of the Michigan.
7Can you name this tree?
- This tree can be located in most of lower
Michigan and in a few locations in northern
Michigan. - This tree is called a Hickory tree.
8What type of tree is this?
- This tree is called a Walnut tree. It can be
easily identified by the large shells on its
braches. These large shells contain the walnut
that can either be be used to grow other trees or
humans/animals can use for food.

The trees we have discussed today in class can be
found right outside your back door. Go home
tonight and ask your parents to help you on a
nature walk. If you cannot find all six types of
trees it does not matter because you can find
tree we have not yet talked about and bring them
in for show and tell. Bring a piece from each
tree to show to the class. If you have a new
tree also bring in a short description and name
of the tree.
