• Escherichia Coli O157H7 (E.Coli) is a toxin
  producing bacteria that can cause severe illness
• E.Coli infections usually present as diarrhea but
  can also initiate onset of Hemolytic Uremic
  Syndrome (HUS)?
• HUS causes development of long term renal
  impairment or other lifelong complications such
  as high blood pressure.

• In 1999 there were 163 reported cases of E. Coli
  in California
• In 2000 there were a reported 265 cases amounting
  to a 62 increase in E. Coli infection.

  2000 was nearly twice the number reported in
  1999.
• In California alone there was a 63 increase in
  reported cases
• This increase is attributed to better reporting
  along with an increase in outbreak frequency.
