Important Information
  • Unless you already have a standard T I teaching
    certificate, you will be provisionally certified
    to teach in a T I program,
  • Which plan of study used will depend on whether
    or not you have a degree when you begin teaching,
  • It is ultimately your responsibility to keep
    track of your coursework and renew certificate,
  • T I web page has pertinent information and

  • Failure to keep a current teaching certificate
    will result in termination.

What is a Plan of Study?
  • A plan of study lists requirements for
    requirements for college coursework and other
    details to be completed for Provisional T I
    teaching certificates.
  • You will need to apply and meet the requirements
    for admission to OSU www.okstate.edu
  • Certification and degree completion are two
    separate items,
  • Participation in New Teacher Institute is
    mandatory.

Certificate Process if no degree
  • Step-by-step If you are beginning without a
    degree
  • Have a GED or H.S. diploma,
  • 1st year NOCTI/ASE, Provisional Level 1
  • 2nd year Need 6 hours from July 1 to June 30,
    renew Provisional level 1,
  • 3rd year Need 6 hours from July 1 to June 30,
    renew Provisional Level 1,
  • 4th year Need 6 hours from July 1 to June 30

Certificate Process if no degree
  • Once you have completed 12 hours, NOCTI can be
    added for 24 hours of credit (Obtain a blue form
    for advanced standing credit from an occupational
    education studies faculty member)
  • Once you have 48 hours on transcript, you are
    eligible for Provisional Level 2.
  • Coursework cant be random, must be on degree
    plan sheet.

Certificate Process for B.S. degreedteachers(mos
t work towards a standard certificate with a
masters degree in TIED)
  • 1st year NOCTI/ASE
  • 2nd year Begin Basic 15, need 6 hours from July
    1 to June 30,
  • 3rd year Continue with Basic 15, need 6 hours
    from July 1 to June 30
  • 4th year Continue with Basic 15, need 6 hours
    from July 1 to June 30
  • (Take courses with 5 prefix when you can)

Certificate process if degreed
  • After Basic 15 is completed Provisional Level
    II may be issued and is valid for 5 years.
  • Every time the Level II is renewed, must have 15
    hours completed towards a standard certificate.

Bottom Line
  • Degree completion is separate from certificate
    renewal,
  • You must be responsible and keep track of courses
    taken and maintain required GPA and understand
    degree sheets are only valid for six years,
  • Extensions or exceptions should not be expected.

  • Am I required to do a portfolio?
  • Required if you . .
  • Were enrolled in an Oklahoma institution prior to
    Fall 1997, admitted to a teacher education
    program during or after Fall 1997, and will
    graduate after Sept. 1, 1999.
  • Seeking initial Oklahoma licensure and already
    had a degree, admitted to teacher education
    during or after Fall 1997 and will complete
    certification requirements either before or after
    Sept. 1, 1999.
  • Already hold a valid Oklahoma credential and are
    seeking to add an advanced certificate (such as
    principal or superintendent) and will complete
    certification requirements after Sept. 1, 1999.

Do I have to demonstrate foreign language
proficiency?
  • Foreign language proficiency is required if you.
    .
  • You already have a degree and are seeking
    certification and a masters degree in trade and
    industrial education .

Foreign Language proficiency is NOT required if
you do not have a four-year college degree and
are seeking certification as a trade and
industrial education teacher.

How do I meet the foreign language proficiency
requirement?
  • Take 5 hours in one foreign language
  • OR
  • Demonstrate proficiency in a foreign language.
  • Note Proficiency in sign language will not
    substitute for foreign language.

What are the requirements for graduation from OSU?
  • At least sixty (60) credit hours must be taken at
    an accredited four-year university,
  • A minimum of one-half of the upper division
    requirements in a students major field must be
    earned in residence at OSU,
  • At least thirty (30) credit hours are to be in
    residence at OSU,
  • Must complete forty (40) hours of upper division
    hours (3000 and 4000 level),
  • Must file a diploma application with the
    Registrars Office when you complete your
    enrollment for the semester you expect to
    graduate.

  • Always use an adviser as you enroll,
  • Keep copies,
  • Allow time,
  • When you graduate, degree plan cant be any older
    than 6 years,
  • GPA requirements vary. You must maintain a 2.5
    GPA for major professional education courses and
    a minimum of a 2.5 GPA overall for general
    education requirements.
  • Keep class materials FOREVER! Portfolios are
    being required for education graduates.
