Title: Dibles ParentTeacher Night
1Dibles Parent/Teacher Night
- Presented by Meredith Holmes
- Amanda Long
- Diana Saavedra
- Jane Mascia Sophia Roberts
2Meredith Holmes introduces the program and
explains how parents will learn to help their
students improve reading comprehension and
fluency.
3Amanda Long explains how to divide words into the
sounds we hear as the words are said.
4Cubes that represent the sounds heard in a word
are placed in the circle.
5As each sound in the word is said, a cube is
moved to the arrow below.
6First you demonstrate the process to the child,
next do it with the child, finally, the child
moves the cubes independently as they say the
sounds in the word.
7Words may have 2, 3, 4 or more sounds. It is not
necessary for the child to see the word to do
this activity.
8Making words involves changing only one letter in
the word to make a new word.
9Children work with a mat and letters to make
words. They change the letters to make new words
at the direction of the teacher or parent.
10Vowels are a different color than the consonants.
11Children point to the letters as the word is
said, connecting the letter to the sound that it
makes.
12Reading stories aloud with the child and using
question stems helps them improve comprehension.
13Each parent received a set of questions to use
with their child to develop comprehension.
14The questions cover a wide range of skills, from
recall of information to analysis and synthesis
of information read.
15Jane discusses the importance of reading to and
with your child to help develop comprehension.
